RIDGEWOOD — The chief of police has acknowledged that he violated Ridgewood’s code by extending conditional offers of employment to two residents who are related to current and former village officers.
The move may have also violated the village’s nepotism policy, which requires council approval when hiring any individual related to a current village employee.
The hires would boost the department’s patrol officer ranks to 32 — exceeding the number currently allowed.
Chief John Ward told the Village Council he did not realize Ridgewood’s code capped that number at 30 when he made the job offers on Jan. 17.

What about the Council who sign the Ordinance into law?
what about the other dept’s that need to hire.
Yes they do. All Dept are understaffed. The new council had almost two years to do the right thing. We all suffer for the political line that we are keeping taxes down. The reason our taxes are high is because the BOE. Although I some times break balls with he the DPW poster he is right in saying the they are under staffed. What I disagree with the posting is that he attacked other dept. I feel his frustration but that’s what this new council want ( in fighting) to distract the residents. In the 70s and 80s ever dept was staffed higher then it is now. That will never happen again but it does mean that were have to drop to the levels that we have now. You know the saying. A house divided cannot stand. That’s their plan.
we have a great town. all the dept’s work well with each other. years back this town was the best around . what happened to this council. they need to wake up. all the dept’s care about this town, but if all dept’s are low in staffing the village will keep going backwards.
# 3 then all of you workers need to stand together. because down the road the mayor and council will change over and over, and all of you will have to deal with the screw up’s.
yes so true # 5, will the village ever be what it was.
Not will all the stalking, spying, retaliation, political payback and surveillance. Maybe someone on the blog is getting political payback for that. No one should be subjected to it, but Kids are always off limits.
