Valley Hospital employees can’t help swelling with pride as they welcome their latest labor and delivery nurse, Hayley Clark.

The 2009 Ridgewood High School (RHS) graduate is Valley’s first employee to come from RHS’ Ridgewood Academy of Health Professions (RAHP).

The Valley-RHS partnership, which began in 2005, has offered many students the opportunity to learn about the varied health-related professions.

The program begins sophomore year, so Clark was a member of the second RAHP class.

“It was really exciting to hear back from Valley, because it was where I grew up,” Clark said during a recent interview. “It has such a community feel, right when you walk into the hospital.”

  1. Other successful grads atre working in science and healthcare outside Ridgewood. They should do a survey of the RAHP grads.

The high school should expand these programs – no more English/History progrems. They should focus on STEM.

  2. My kids presently attend RHS and many of their friends are involved in RAHP. Not a single one wants to pursue healthcare . . . they just want to put RAHP on their college resumes. A complete waste of RHS resources.

RHS definitely should be boosting STEM classes.

  3. RHAP is STEM

  4. RAHP boosts the resume and it exposes students to healthcare professions. Management and direct services. Nothing wrong with that. If the student does not pursue healthcare then it is an informed decision

If you do the RAHP program and go into sciences and not healthcare it is ok. I do not know of any theater majors who did RAHP

  5. RAHP is normal honors curriculum with a healthcare twist. RHS need to offer more hardcore STEM classes . . there’s nothing advanced STEM about RAHP.
