Gov Christie blames NJ property tax increase on Democrats
Megan Demarco

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie today fingered Democrats for a jump in the average property tax bill in 2010.

Asked if he takes responsibility for the increase at a press availability today, the governor said “absolutely not.”

The average property tax bill in 2010 was $7,576, a 4.1 percent increase over 2009 and the largest year-over-year increase since 2007. Democrats on Friday, when the state released the numbers, blamed Christie for the spike…

“If they pass all the things that I proposed, then it’s completely my responsibility. If they don’t, then they own it,” Christie said. “You can’t give me part of my solution and then expect me to be responsible if the solution doesn’t work.”
