The ugly truth about Cory Booker, New Jersey’s golden boy

It’s eight o’clock on a Sunday night in Jersey City, and for the first time this October it’s cold enough to see your breath in front of you with a deep exhale of the Hudson River air. It’s curious, given that, to see a group of a few dozen residents and visitors from neighboring towns assembled in a parking lot next to the train station—while the New York Giants are playing, no less. The workout-gear-clad mayor, Steven Fulop, is hopping up and down with his arms crossed over his chest for warmth, asking me when I think “he” will arrive. (Nuzzi/The Daily Beast)

  1. Does he still live on Hawthorne Avenue in Newark?

  2. What a waste of an article. I want my 5 minutes back.

  3. The author of this article does not appear to realize that Lautenberg’s death in office was the reason for the special election. “With Lautenberg somewhere in the ether…”, is that what the kids are calling death these days? I love these so-called tough pieces of hard hitting journalism that are really only thinly-veiled attacks on one or another conservative candidate with the guts to present an on-the-ballot alternative to Booker, who is only the latest outrage foisted on the people of New Jersey by his shameless political party. How horrid does a candidate need to be to cause an involuntary gag reflex among “D”-registered voters? Or is it like today’s equity and commodities markets, where real people have long since been displaced by machines who represent the bulk of the daily volume of transactions. Machines, meaning: dead people, stuffed ballot boxes, voting machines that automatically record a “D” vote even as the Non-“D” candidate tries to vote for himself (!), are much more reliable voters because they don’t experience the gag reflex.

  4. Instead of seizing the bully pulpit (pun intended) and appoint a member of his own party as a replacement senator for the unexpired Lautenberg term (as any noble Democrat would have done), Christie swallows the poison pill and calls for the special election. He knew Booker would take the bait and Christie would be insulated from a moderate Democrat with a high name recognition value. Booker is running purely on celebrity because he has little else positive to show for his time in office. There is a reason NJ is the punchline for so many jokes (and setting for HBO series shows on corruption) – it’s the politics.

  5. #1 – I doubt it….when in Washington I’m sure he stays in an apartment close to Dupont Circle.

What are you insinuating? That Booker is gay, you are a detestable bigot, or both?
