The new arrivals in my neighborhood, pus some here 10-15 years, don’t play by the rules and don’t care, they sprinkler water every day, morning daylight or night time in the cloak of darkness, they are only concerned that they have a nice green lush lawn. They didn’t care about stage 1 restrictions, let alone stage 2, even tho other neighbors mentioned water rules to them, it rolls off their shoulder and it is not important enough and ignored. Yes, they sprinkler water on Monday when no one is to. Shame on them.
…I never got a reverse robo call on water sprinkling rules, used to, but in the know, do follow the rules, use hand held hose and have burned out areas of lawn, it doesn’t grow – no water, no rain, dry hot season, and have the landscaper skip grass cuts at times.
…The town should have sent a postal notice to all customers, as they did in past years, as there are many new residents. Education and respect for our water resources could be in flyer form, to inform people of the artesian well water here, and that its not from a resevoir. They don’t know, don’t care, think its an endless supply. Parents should set an example for their kids, and not break rules – saying its ok to do so. If not, they could take their bad habits and move back to the city.
I agree with the above and also see neighbors breaking the rules. Besides grass is not a native ground cover and shouldn’t be the main cover of yard space anyway: requires too much water, and pesticides, herbicides to maintain. Many articles have appeared on this subject including a great one in the Ridgewood News from former Eco Ed Schwarz.
Send an email with the offenders address to dscheibner@ridgewoodnj.netHe is the boss at ridgewood water. When they are doing enforcement they can see it and do something .Police used to enforce but just like all jnight parking they won’t do anything unless a complaint is called in
The biggest excuse is that the sprinklers are on a timer and they don’t know how to change it. And you know these neighborhood “sprinkler police” will be the first to complain to Property Maintenance when someone’s lawn goes to hell. Can’t have it both ways.
Yeah, people should reduce size of lawn anyway, and plant plants and groundcovers that don’t need so much maintenance.
My irrigation system is on a timer and I don’t know how to change it SO IT SHUT IT OFF. On days I am allowed to water, I turn it back on and then after it has watered, I SHUT IT OFF> This system works really well!
If there were strict enforcement then it is likely to have an effect, but in the village very little is enforced from the administrators to the police everyone passes the buck. Nothing but one big joke.
Of good start would be for the village to start complying with the restrictions!
at 10:03 am.. your comment “sprinkler police”, That’s Bullshit. complainer lawn is not gone to hell, no need to cut it so often. Its the attitude mindset of those non-compliers overwatering daily whether using a regular sprinkler placed on lawn or underground system. They know the rules and don’t give a shit, don’t care, rules don’t apply to them. They are entitled to do so, make all kinds of excuses, its going to be hot spell, they’ll be away one day on weekend, water extra now/later, afraid the lawn will turn yellow excuses, company coming, want a green lawn to look nice.
…There were firetrucks equipment, ambulance, police cars few houses down street other day, a fire, the entitled didn’t care take notice, too busy, turned on sprinklers. Later, wondered why they had brown faucet tap water, hello- the hydrant was opened and used to put out fire. The entitled are in it for themselves while they are here. Water restrictions are supposed to apply to all! Water is a shared resource. Entitled also complain schools overcrowded, just hire more teachers, build another school, build more ballfields, already say they’ll move after last kid graduates.
…By the way, excessive water uses can be detected as they happen, drops in water supply system, on department gauges.
Ridgewood is a pain in the ass place to live….
Just do the right things; live the right way and ignore the assholes.
It’s all BS. The radio today mentioned Rockland and Bergen have VOLUNTARY water restrictions.
Whoever doesn’t know how to program their sprinkler system should ask the people they pay to maintain it to give them a manual and a demonstration. Do they program their thermostats and other electronic devices? It’s not that hard.
7:57 pm It’s difficult to ignore the assholes when they are always butting in to everyone else’s business.
I absolutely loathe the phrase new arrivals. I’ve seen plenty of ‘old relics’ of this town abuse the system. stop laying all the towns problems on the doorsteps of newbies.
