Even with suggested improvements to traffic infrastructure near The Valley Hospital, the facility is already too large for its neighborhood, according to one expert whose testimony in front of the Village Council on Monday night raised new questions about the hospital’s “Renewal” project.

Joe Staigar, the traffic engineer who testified in front of the council at its second hearing on the hospital’s expansion proposal, pointed to serious traffic problems around Valley Hospital’s campus at North Van Dien and Linwood avenues. At peak times, students leaving nearby schools weave through gridlocked traffic in the hospital’s driveways, and drivers sit through multiple traffic signal cycles to get through intersections, he said.
