Life in the suburbs for a 20-something person may be rather simple: hanging out at the coffee shop, playing music, maybe taking classes, taking drives.

Now, a collective of local musicians has gathered together to make sure they’re going somewhere.

Beneath the veneer of the well-paved suburban streets, the area is teeming with young and misanthropic musicians. For years they’ve been playing shows amongst themselves, at Ramapo College, and at local bars and cafes. The Ridgewood Coffee Company, with its weekly open-mic nights and roomy outdoor tables, has become a favorite hangout.

Lately things have been picking up for this gang, as a few bands, who frequently and naturally overlap, have organized themselves into a collective and record label called Trunk Rock Records.
