With a legal dispute between the village and its old taxi service still in court, the owners of the new Village Taxi service are painting walls and connecting phone lines in preparation of opening their doors next month.
The Village Council is expected to approve next week an ordinance authorizing the operation of Hawthorne-based E & K Limousine, which will run the Village Taxi enterprise at the Ridgewood train station on North Broad Street.
The council authorized Village Taxi’s bid in April, dropping Ridgewood Taxi’s license. But the longstanding company continued to operate out of the train station during the following months, until the state’s taxation division seized the property last month for alleged negligence in tax payments.
