Cuomo Tears Into Marxist Rival: Is This Mayoral Candidate a Wealthy ‘Mansion Boy’ Hiding Foreign Land?

New York NY, the gloves are officially off in the heated New York mayoral race. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, has launched a blistering attack against socialist assemblyman and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, calling him a “hypocrite” for owning valuable foreign property while campaigning on a platform to abolish private property rights.
According to state and city financial disclosure filings, the Queens assemblyman owns a piece of vacant land in Jinja, Uganda, acquired back in 2012, with an estimated worth between $100,000 and $250,000.
The Height of Hypocrisy?
Cuomo, who is trailing Mamdani in recent polls, did not hold back in dismantling the younger politician’s carefully crafted “working-class champion” persona.
“Being a wealthy landowner with foreign investments, while holding a rent-stabilized apartment in the tightest housing market in the nation is the height of hypocrisy,” Cuomo told the New York Post.
He further suggested Mamdani’s entire image is an act: “Working men and women don’t live in mansions with armed guards and have family homes around the world — oligarchs’ sons do,” Cuomo asserted, labeling his rival a “mansion boy living off family wealth.”
The Family Fortune and Airbnb Conflict
The allegations of vast family wealth stem from Mamdani’s parents: renowned Columbia University Professor Mahmood Mamdani and award-winning filmmaker Mira Nair (director of Monsoon Wedding).
The family reportedly owns a five-bedroom villa overlooking Lake Victoria in Uganda. Even more controversially, despite Mamdani’s public opposition to the platform, his parents have been renting this property on Airbnb for eight years.
While Mamdani attempts to project an everyman image—even posting videos of himself eating burritos on the subway—Cuomo’s attack aims to expose a deep disconnect between the candidate’s public rhetoric on private property and his personal financial reality as a scion of a wealthy, established family.
