NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ — An armed suspect was shot by police on Friday, June 14, in North Arlington during an ongoing investigation into a reported carjacking that originated in Kearny, authorities have confirmed.
According to Jeff Angermeyer of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO), the incident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. in the Porete Avenue area of North Arlington. Law enforcement officers encountered the armed individual as part of their investigation into a previously reported armed carjacking.
“Law enforcement confronted an armed suspect in connection with an ongoing armed carjacking investigation that originated in Kearny,” said Angermeyer.
During the confrontation, police opened fire, striking the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been discharged into police custody as the investigation continues.
🔍 Investigation Underway
The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General is leading the investigation into the police-involved shooting, with assistance from the BCPO. Under state law, the Attorney General’s Office is required to investigate any incident in which a person is injured or killed during an encounter with law enforcement.
No officers were reported injured in the incident, and no further threats to the public have been announced.
