Arrest Made in Mahwah Convenience Store Robbery

Mahwah NJ, an arrest has been made in connection with a robbery at a convenience store in Mahwah last month. Rafael Rodriguez, of the Bronx, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the incident, the Mahwah Police Department announced on Wednesday.

The robbery occurred on November 21 at the Bolla Market on Route 17 North. According to police, two men fled the scene in a blue Toyota Highlander with Connecticut plates after stealing lottery tickets and condoms.

Details of the Incident

Police responded to the store after reports of a robbery in progress. Surveillance footage and witness accounts revealed the following:

  • One suspect initially entered the store asking for cigarettes without money and later returned wearing a surgical mask, gloves, and a dark coat.
  • Armed with screwdrivers taken from near the register, he allegedly threatened the clerk, demanded cigarettes and money, and climbed on the counter to steal lottery tickets.
  • A second man entered during the commotion and grabbed additional lottery tickets and condoms.
  • The suspects fled in their vehicle but briefly stopped to take even more lottery tickets before driving away.

Investigation and Arrest

The Mahwah Police Department worked with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) to process the scene and review surveillance footage. Detectives issued a warrant for Rodriguez, who was later arrested by the New Jersey State Police on an unrelated matter.

Rodriguez was transported from Middlesex County Jail to Mahwah, where he was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft, and weapons possession. He is now in Bergen County Jail, awaiting his first court appearance.

Police are still searching for the second suspect involved in the robbery.
