Jobs Recession Now 49 Months: Longest Since WWII
By ED CARSON, INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY
Posted 08:38 AM ET

The U.S. economy added 227,000 jobs in February vs. expectations for 206,000, continuing a recent trend of decent hiring activity. The unemployment rate held at 8.3%.

But America remains mired in the longest jobs recession since the Great Depression. It’s been 49 months since the U.S. hit peak employment in January 2008. And with nonfarm payrolls still 5.33 million below their old high, the jobs slump will continue for several more years.

>First draft of Ridgewood municipal budget shows $276 tax hike

The Ridgewood News

The municipal portion of next year’s tax bill could increase by 7.6 percent, which would likely raise taxes by roughly $276 for the average assessed home of $794,531, Village Manager Ken Gabbert said at a budget meeting on Wednesday.

Gabbert opened the meeting by citing several reasons that factor into the possible tax increase and reminded members of the Village Council that those numbers can change before the budget process is completed.

“[The increase] is remarkably low from the last two years, so don’t start screaming about 7.6. Obviously, the process you’re going through is to wean down the budget and to get a budget that will be ready for introduction,” Gabbert said, noting that the village is still within the mandated 2 percent tax levy cap.

Sweeney touts Democrats new business-friendly attitude
New Jersey legislators are working to make the state more business friendly and create jobs, State Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney (D-Gloucester) said on Wednesday.
“We are headed in the right direction and it’s being done in a bipartisan effort,” Sweeney said. “We can’t afford to fight. Our unemployment rate is still above the national average. Our responsibility is to create opportunities.”
Sweeney was the keynote speaker at the New Jersey chapter of the NAIOP’s annual public policy symposium at the Hilton East Brunswick Hotel and Executive Meeting Center. About 140 people from the commercial real estate industry attended.  (Loyer, Gannett)

Trenton lobbyist spending surges for second straight year
Lobbyist spending in New Jersey surged for the second straight year, growing by 11.2 percent, to $73.3 million, in 2011, driven by mass-media advertising.
“Lobbyists are depending more and more on mass media communications in their effort to influence public policy,” said Jeffrey Brindle, in a statement. Brindle is the executive director of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, which released its annual lobbyist report today.

The ranking of the top eight lobbying firms in the amount of receipts was the same in 2011 as the previous year, although the amount increased for most firms.  (Kitchenman, NJBIZ)

Assembly panel to consider bill to force Port Authority to respond to spending and patronage questions
The Assembly Transportation Committee Thursday will consider legislation that would grant the panel subpoena power to investigate the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The proposal (AR-61) stems from reports of wasteful spending and the handing out of patronage jobs by the bi-state agency. The Port Authority has ignore the committee’s request to respond to its questions.
Lower house committees will also consider bills to tackle gender wage inequity, put an end to hefty sick leave cash payments for public workers, reward businesses who hire employees who have been unemployed for more than 13 weeks and to help fund Legal Services of New Jersey.   (Hester, New Jersey Newsroom)

Port Authority on the hook for $150 million payment on risky swaps
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could be forced to pay out more than $150 million this year on a pair of complex and risky investments originally designed to save the agency money.
The investments, known as interest rate swaps, have been on the Port Authority’s books since 2007 and have been losing the agency money almost since the day they were entered into.  But in 2009, in an effort to buy time in hopes that the investments would become profitable, the agency renegotiated the deals with the investment banks on the other side of the transaction.  (Isherwood, PolitickerNJ)

Gas Prices Now A Big Factor In Presidential Election
March 7, 2012 7:10 PM

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It might be one of the biggest issues in the upcoming presidential election. Last night, CBS News exit polls found 77 percent of those voting in seven Super Tuesday states say rising gas prices were an important factor in their vote.

The poll reflects growing consumer anxiety as gas prices have risen nearly 50 cents a gallon in just over two months.

Consumers have been telling us they are cutting corners because for most driving is a necessity.

In Minnesota the average price is 3-58. The current national average for a gallon of regular is 3-76, but some analysts are predicting that gas could rise to $5 by the summer.

>Senate rejects move to fast-track Keystone

The Senate on Thursday rejected an attempt to fast-track the Keystone XL pipeline — barely.

The White House and Democratic leadership squeaked out a 56-42 vote on an amendment to the Senate’s highway bill, winning only because 60 votes were needed for passage.

President Barack Obama had personally lobbied Democrats with phone calls urging them to oppose the measure, as Republicans continue to push the pipeline as a job-creating project needed in these days of high gasoline prices.

How to get ANYTHING through TSA nude body scanners: Blogger exposes loophole in $1billion fleet

Jonathan Corbett claims he could easily smuggle explosives onto a plane
Strip-search scanners banned in Europe over cancer fears

By LEE MORAN
Last updated at 1:09 PM on 7th March 2012

Controversial nude body scanners used at U.S. airports have come under fire again – after a blogger claimed he could easily smuggle explosives through them onto a plane.

Engineer Jonathan Corbett has published a video where he shows how he took a small metal case through two of the TSA’s $1billion fleet in a special side pocket stitched into his shirt.

This is because, he suggests, the scanners blend metallic areas into the dark background – so if an object is not directly placed on the body, it will not show up on the scan.

The metallic box, he claims, would have set off an alarm had he passed through the old detecting system.

Feds: Move Has Alienated People, Hurt Counter Terror Info Gathering Process
March 7, 2012 11:22 PM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The head of the Newark FBI said Wednesday the NYPD’s monitoring of Muslims in New Jersey has had a chilling effect on the feds’ ability to gather counter terrorism intelligence.

In the annals of policing this is unheard of. Usually people in law enforcement hang together. If they have squabbles they keep it in the cone of silence.

>Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood

>Margaret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood

I thought eugenics went out of style after that whole Third Reich thing…

Not Nazi germany.
Try American Socialist Utopianism.

This is all part of the liberal left’s socialist Utopia agenda. They tried right here in the USA in the 20’s… and they have not given up trying.

Read up on it…

Read up on Margaret Sanger.
She was the founder of Planned Parenthood.

Here are some of her thoughts on birth control and eugenics:

“The purpose in promoting birth control was “to create a race of thoroughbreds,” she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921

“The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
Margaret Sanger, Women and the New Race (Eugenics Publ. Co., 1920, 1923)

“More children from the fit, less from the unfit — that is the chief aim of birth control.” Birth Control Review, May 1919

These are not “out of context” quotes…
Do your own research.
There is much, much more.

…and I won’t even talk about her thoughts on race.

But, go ahead. You keep right on voting for these guys…

MANAGING EDITOR
PASCACK VALLEY COMMUNITY LIFE

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is appealing the decision made by the State Health and Senior Services Commissioner to allow for the opening of a new hospital in Westwood.

The hospital filed a notice of appeal with the state’s Appellate Division of the Superior Court on Friday, March 2, stating Health Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd’s decision “disregards the substantial excess of hospital beds in Bergen County,” will cause a “significant loss of admissions” and a reduction of $15 million in revenue for Englewood.

The commissioner’s Feb. 27 decision issued a certificate of need (CN) for Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) to reopen the former Pascack Valley Hospital on Old Hook Road as a 128-bed, full-service, acute care facility.
