Battered gardens can be spruced up with fall plantings
Saturday, September 3, 2011

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for North Jerseyans.

I don’t need to remind you, we’ve all been taking it on the chin big time.

Not that they are high priority right now, but our gardens have taken a beating as well. They’ve had to endure extreme temperatures, followed by lots of precipitation — and then Irene dropped by with her rain and winds.

Many gardeners may just want to give up and begin looking forward to next year. But it’s not time to throw in the trowel just yet.

Donna Dorsey, owner of Goffle Brook Farm & Garden Center in Ridgewood, thinks there is plenty to look forward to this autumn. She says there are many plants that can be added in fall to help spruce up our battered yards.
