Bear Captured In Community Gardens Near Maple Park, RIdgewood

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Councilman Thomas Riche and Ridgewood Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh are briefed by Ridgewood Police Department Patrol Officer Rosario Vaccarella on the status of attempts to capture a black bear that was hiding up a tree in the Community Gardens near Maple Park on Sunday afternoon. Â Standing with Mr. Riche and Ms. Walsh is Ms. Walsh’s young son Gavin .
The bear was later successfully tranquilized, captured unharmed, and taken to a remote area for release by representatives of the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife.
The bear capture was documented by several reporters and photographers, including at least one representing a NYC area television station.
A a precaution, all swimmers were ordered out of water in nearby Graydon Pool, Ridgewood’s municipal swimming complex, until the bear was safely contained within the Community Gardens.
