WYCKOFF, NJ — Security is tightening across North Jersey as local police departments and state officials respond to the fallout of “Operation Epic Fury,” the massive U.S. and Israeli military strike against Iran this past weekend.

While officials emphasize there are no specific or credible threats to New Jersey at this time, the Wyckoff Police Department and neighboring agencies are taking no chances, significantly increasing their presence around religious locations and sensitive sites to protect against potential retaliation.

Local Law Enforcement on “High Vigilance”

Following the overnight military operations in Tehran—which reports indicate resulted in at least 200 deaths and 700 injuries—the Wyckoff Police Department issued a statement to reassure the community.

“The Wyckoff Police Department wants our community to know that we are actively monitoring the situation alongside our law enforcement partners,” the department shared on Saturday.

In coordination with the New Jersey State Police, as well as federal and local partners, Wyckoff officers have been directed to increase patrols around houses of worship. The department’s message was clear: “We remain vigilant… and stand ready to respond if needed. If you see something, say something.”

Governor Sherrill and State Leaders Monitor the Situation

Governor Mikie Sherrill, drawing on her experience as a former Naval officer and member of the House Armed Services Committee, also addressed the state on Saturday.

“My office is closely monitoring the situation in Iran, Israel, and elsewhere in the Middle East,” Gov. Sherrill stated. “At this time, there is no known threat to New Jersey.”

Sherrill confirmed she is working directly with Attorney General Davenport, Acting Superintendent Hengemuhle, and Director Hauck of the State’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to ensure a unified safety strategy. As a precaution, the state has mandated increased patrols at “houses of worship and other sensitive sites” across all New Jersey counties.

What “Operation Epic Fury” Means for NJ Residents

The Pentagon-labeled offensive was described by the President as a necessary measure to “eliminate imminent threats from the Iranian regime.” However, the scale of the strikes has put domestic law enforcement on a defensive footing.

Residents in Bergen County and throughout North Jersey can expect to see:

  • Increased marked patrol cars near churches, synagogues, and mosques.

  • Heightened coordination between local PDs and the NJ Office of Homeland Security.

  • Community alerts regarding any changes in regional threat levels.

State and local leaders urge residents to remain alert but calm. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to local law enforcement.
