Hackensaack NJ, While most of Bergen County was tucked away inside during this past weekend’s relentless snowstorm, a small army of workers was battling the elements to ensure the commute on Monday morning was a “blacktop” reality.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco issued a heartfelt thank you to the nearly 150 drivers and municipal partners who worked around the clock to manage a storm that dropped snow consistently for nearly 24 hours straight.

By the Numbers: The Massive Cleanup Effort

Clearing the largest county in New Jersey is no small feat. To keep the region moving, the snow removal operation managed:

  • 440 Miles of Roadway: Covered by the internal County team and local municipal partners.

  • 150 Dedicated Drivers: Operating heavy machinery through whiteout conditions and freezing temperatures.

  • 24 Hours of Continuous Snowfall: A grueling test of endurance for the crews stationed at depots across the county.

“Their round-the-clock efforts kept Bergen County safe and moving through this storm, delivering blacktop roads and ensuring our residents could get to work today.” — County Executive Jim Tedesco

Why This Matters for Residents

With nearly one million residents calling Bergen County home, the stakes for snow removal are high. Efficient plowing isn’t just about convenience—it’s about:

  1. Emergency Access: Ensuring ambulances and police can reach neighborhoods without delay.

  2. Economic Continuity: Allowing businesses to open and residents to get to work safely on Monday morning.

  3. Community Safety: Reducing the risk of black ice and hazardous slush on high-traffic corridors like Route 4, 17, and local county roads.

A “Thank You” to Our Municipal Partners

Tedesco emphasized that this was a collaborative effort. The synergy between the Bergen County Department of Public Works (DPW) and our 70 municipalities is what allows such a massive geographic area to be cleared so effectively.

As the snow melts, the County continues to monitor road conditions and prepare for future winter weather events. We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who leave their families in the middle of the night to keep ours safe.
