Bergenfield High School Football Coach Rob Violante Killed in Tragic Taconic Parkway Crash

Bergenfield NJ, the North Jersey football community is mourning the sudden loss of Rob Violante, beloved Bergenfield High School football coach, who tragically died in a two-vehicle crash on the Taconic State Parkway in New Castle, New York, on the afternoon of May 14.

According to New York State Police, a southbound Sprinter van crossed the median and collided with a northbound Honda sedan in the left lane. The devastating accident killed four people, including Violante, and left a fifth person in critical condition.

🏈 A Legacy of Leadership at Bergenfield High School

Coach Rob Violante, 45, was a pillar of the Bergenfield High School community, where he served as head football coach since 2011 and was preparing for his 15th season — tying him as the longest-tenured coach in the school’s football history.

During his coaching career, he led the Bears to 61 victories and five playoff appearances. The 2024 season ended with a win over Tenafly, closing a challenging year with hope and determination — a reflection of the kind of mentor he was to his team.

💔 A Devastating Loss for the Bergenfield Community

The New Jersey Football Coaches Association confirmed Violante’s passing. He was also a dean of students, well-known for his deep commitment to the students both on and off the field.

His father, Frank Violante, serves as the athletic director at Glen Rock High School, deepening the sorrow felt across the region’s school sports communities.
