As Billy Crystal approached his 65th birthday, he thought about going out on the road with a new comedy act. And so, he started to write fresh material.
“I was feeling funny stuff about what I was doing and about what I was feeling and how I was maturing,” says Crystal, who pauses to chuckle about that euphemism. “And every time I finished one of them, it felt more like an essay than it did a routine and I said, ‘Well, let me see if this could be a book.’ I just started approaching it that way, and then, here we are.”
That book is “Still Foolin’ ‘Em: Where I’ve Been, Where I’m Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys?” which Crystal will be signing at Bookends in Ridgewood tonight.
“I’m coming right from ‘Letterman’ to the bookstore,” he says.
