Quick Action Prevents Disaster

The emergency call came in at 1:18 PM on Thursday, October 23rd, reporting a building fire. The speed of the initial response was critical:

  • 1:21 PM: Just three minutes after the alert, Car 2 (Assistant Chief Piccoli) arrived on the scene and immediately reported smoke showing from the structure. Recognizing the danger, he quickly transmitted the working fire signal and established initial command.
  • Escalation: Car 1 (Chief Bohny) arrived shortly after and assumed command, immediately requesting a 2nd Alarm from the Bergen County Public Safety Communication Center, bringing in essential mutual aid resources.

Fire Located and Extinguished

A crucial 360-degree assessment of the building confirmed the fire had started in the kitchen and was already spreading into the attic space above.

The arrival of Ladder 3 was timely. Crew members quickly stretched a line into the structure and successfully extinguished the bulk of the fire concentrated in the kitchen.

Additional Franklin Lakes companies and multiple mutual aid departments then worked together to:

  • Extinguish the remaining pockets of fire (hot spots).
  • Conduct thorough searches of the structure.
  • Perform extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was completely suppressed and prevent reignition.
