Tenafly, NJ—A routine walk through nature turned into a serious criminal investigation on Thursday afternoon after a hiker discovered the body of a deceased man within the serene, wooded confines of the Tenafly Nature Center.
The discovery, which occurred around 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 20th, has brought local and county law enforcement to the popular 400-acre Bergen County preserve.
Details of the Discovery and Investigation
The body was located in a wooded section of the nature preserve, according to Jeff Angermeyer, deputy chief of detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO). The hiker immediately alerted authorities upon making the tragic finding.
The investigation is being handled jointly by the BCPO Major Crimes Unit and the Tenafly Police Department.
While details are limited as the investigation is in its earliest stages, the presence of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit indicates the severity of the incident, and authorities are working to determine the circumstances and cause of death.
