Teaneck, NJ — The crackdown on mail theft continues as a Brooklyn man learns his fate for orchestrating a sophisticated scheme involving stolen USPS “arrow keys” and altered checks.

On February 18, 2026, Noah Aranzamendi, 27, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. The sentence follows his role in a two-year conspiracy that targeted mailboxes across Bergen County and beyond, resulting in over $240,000 in losses to local victims and financial institutions.

🔑 The Anatomy of the Scheme: How It Worked

According to federal court documents and statements made by Senior Counsel Philip Lamparello, Aranzamendi’s operation was highly organized, running from February 2020 through February 2022. The scheme involved:

  • USPS “Arrow Keys”: Aranzamendi obtained official, stolen master keys to access blue USPS collection boxes directly.

  • Check Washing & Alteration: Once checks were stolen from the mail, they were either sold to third parties or altered and deposited into the accounts of “complicit” accountholders.

  • Identity Theft: The conspirators created false identifications using the names of legitimate accountholders to make fraudulent cash withdrawals.

A Pattern of Criminal Activity

This sentencing marks Aranzamendi’s fifth conviction related to similar fraud schemes. He previously pleaded guilty in July 2025 to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and the receipt and possession of stolen mail.

🛡️ Law Enforcement Collaboration

The successful prosecution was the result of a multi-agency effort, including:

  1. U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) – Newark & Philadelphia Divisions.

  2. U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS-OIG).

  3. Teaneck Police Department.

The case was handled by the Bank Integrity, Money Laundering, and Recovery Unit in Newark.

  1. It would be interesting to know how much time this guy actually served for his 4 previous convictions of similar charges. At age 27 on his 5th conviction, I would guess not much.
