HILLSDALE, NJ — August 26, 2025: Motorists traveling northbound on the Garden State Parkway through Bergen County experienced delays Tuesday after a car fire erupted near mile marker 167.7.
The incident happened late Tuesday morning and extended into the early afternoon, prompting emergency response and temporary lane closures. According to officials, the right shoulder and right travel lane were shut down as firefighters and tow crews worked to contain the blaze and clear the wreckage.

No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the vehicle involved was completely destroyed in the fire, state police confirmed.
Multiple Agencies Responded
The response was a coordinated effort involving:
-
New Jersey State Police Troop D, Bloomfield Barracks
-
Firefighters from Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, and Montvale
Crews worked quickly to bring the situation under control, but the incident caused traffic backups for northbound drivers during the midday commute.
Parkway Safety Reminder
While the cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, authorities remind drivers to:
-
Pull over safely if mechanical issues occur
-
Exit the vehicle immediately if smoke or fire is detected
-
Call 911 and wait for professional responders
The Garden State Parkway is one of New Jersey’s busiest highways, and even short closures can cause major congestion.
