Caritas Gala for Remarkable Leaders Transforming Northern New Jersey

Paterson NJ, Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson is set to hold its prestigious Caritas Gala on November 7, 2024, at The Meadow Wood in Randolph, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The event will celebrate the invaluable contributions of the organization’s honorees, supporters, and volunteers, all of whom have played pivotal roles in shaping the lives of Northern New Jersey’s most vulnerable residents.

As one of the largest nonprofit organizations in New Jersey, Catholic Charities Diocese of Paterson serves Passaic, Morris, and Sussex counties, offering over 70 programs that support individuals and families through a wide array of services, including housing, addiction recovery, caring for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, early education, and programs for veterans and seniors. This year’s gala will recognize key figures who have exemplified extraordinary commitment to advancing the organization’s mission of compassionate care rooted in Catholic values.

The evening will feature the presentation of four prestigious awards, each representing the immense impact made by individuals and families on the programs and services of Catholic Charities.

Honorees

Bob and Susie Waldele – Diocese of Paterson Bishop’s Award
With nearly 40 years of devotion to the Diocese, Bob and Susie Waldele have dedicated their lives to faith, family, and service. Through their support of initiatives like the Diocesan Ministries Appeal and local food pantries, they have helped countless families. Their unwavering generosity and active involvement in their parish and community have earned them this well-deserved recognition.

Deacon Peter Cistaro – Father Jack Wehrlen Award Deacon
Peter Cistaro’s dedication to his parish and Diocese has had an enduring impact. Having served as Director of the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Paterson, his leadership nurtured the spiritual growth of deacons across the region. His long-standing commitment to affordable housing for seniors and his board role at Catholic Charities make him a transformative figure in the community.

Brian and Mary Jo Sullivan and Family – Msgr. Mark Giordani Award
The Sullivan family exemplifies faith, love, and service. Their journey, including adopting children from Haiti and China, reflects a life deeply rooted in Catholic values. Brian and Mary Jo’s dedication to causes like the Father English Community Center and their inspiring leadership within the Catholic community have positively shaped countless lives. Their story of balancing business, family, and faith is one of inspiration.

Father Ed Reading – Father Norman O’Connor ‘The Jazz Priest’ Award
A visionary in addiction treatment, Father Ed Reading has dedicated his life to integrating spiritual and medical care for those battling substance abuse. Through his leadership at Straight and Narrow, his work in addiction counseling, and his advocacy for healthcare professionals, Father Reading has changed lives and set new standards in the field of addiction studies. His enduring commitment to holistic healing makes him a beacon of hope in the community.
