CASH FARES RESUME ON NJ TRANSIT TRAINS BEGINNING JULY 6th

Ridgewood NJ,  NJ TRANSIT is resuming the collection of cash fares on board trains beginning Monday, July 6th.  The cash option was temporarily suspended as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.  Cash transactions on board trains will be subject to the previous $5 surcharge policy.  Customers are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets prior to boarding using the NJ TRANSIT mobile app and ticket vending machines (TVMs).

NJ TRANSIT will resume accepting cash fares on board buses in the coming weeks as protective barriers are installed near the bus operator. Customers are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets prior to boarding using the NJ TRANSIT mobile app and ticket vending machines (TVMs).

“The health and safety of our customers and employees has been, and remains, our top priority since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett.  “We’re pleased to be able to safely reinstate this purchase option for our rail customers and look forward to restoring it for bus customers in the coming weeks when the installation of safety barriers is completed, protecting customers and bus operators.”

Full Weekday Service Monday, July 6:

Rail and light rail services will resume full weekday service on Monday, July 6 providing added capacity to improve distancing on board vehicles, which aligns with “The Road Back”, New Jersey’s roadmap for restoring economic health through public health.  Bus service has been operating on a regular weekday schedule since Monday, June 8.

Cash fare collection resumes on trains beginning Monday, July 6.
Rail service resumes at Jersey Avenue station on Monday, July 6.
All NJ TRANSIT bus tickets/passes will continue to be cross honored on rail.
Weekend rail service on 7600 series trains operating between Rahway and Penn Station New York (PSNY) will resume on Sunday, July 5.
On weekends, the final train of the night from Penn Station New York (PSNY) on the North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL) and its connecting Bay Head shuttle and the final train of the night from Newark Penn Station on the Raritan Valley Line (RVL) will return to their normal departure times late Sunday night, July 5 (early Monday morning, July 6).
