TRENTON, NJ – In recognition of national Preservation Month, Preservation New Jersey, Inc. (PNJ) announced its annual list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Places in New Jersey at a press conference in the courtyard of the State House Annex in Trenton, New Jersey at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2019. PNJ was joined by the advocates for this year’s endangered historic places at a rally to support New Jersey’s threatened cultural and architectural heritage.

The 10 Most Endangered Historic Places program spotlights irreplaceable historic, architectural, cultural, and archaeological resources in New Jersey that are in imminent danger of being lost. The act of listing these resources acknowledges their importance to the heritage of New Jersey and draws attention to the predicaments that endanger their survival and the survival of historic resources statewide. The list, generated from nominations by the public, aims to attract new perspectives and ideas to sites in desperate need of creative solutions.

Ridgewood NJ, according to the Tax Foundation the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) significantly reduced the U.S. federal corporate income tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, making the U.S. more competitive with other developed nations.

However, it’s important for lawmakers to remember that corporate income taxes at the state level also contribute to the overall tax burden on corporate profits.

Assemblyman says residents drowning in taxes, pushes towns to pledge no rain tax

TRENTON NJ, In an effort to provide relief to taxpayers, Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips pushes towns to pledge against passing a rain tax.

“Over the past few days I have joined Assemblyman Ryan Peters by imploring municipalities to oppose the rain tax by taking the ‘no rain tax’ pledge and passing a ‘no rain tax resolution.’” I have reached out to mayors in my district and many of them have agreed that our residents are overtaxed and charging people for rain would only add insult to injury,” said DePhillips (R-Bergen).

Murphy’s bloated budget hurts over-taxed New Jerseyans

HACKENSACK NJ,Following an invitation-only budget roundtable for elected Bergen County officials at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus, Assemblymen Christopher P. DePhillips and Kevin J. Rooney slammed the Murphy administration’s runaway spending and tax increases.

“We can’t have any meaningful discussion around this budget without addressing spending cuts and tax cuts,” said DePhillips (R-Bergen). “Moreover, Trenton should be required to live within a two percent spending cap, just like every municipality in our state.”

Governor Phil Murphy announces $1 million in Transit Village grants to revitalize areas around transit facilities

Trenton NJ, on April 10th ,Governor Phil Murphy announced $1 million in Transit Village grants to revitalize areas around transit facilities. Five municipalities will receive grants for quality of life improvements.

Under this multi-agency smart growth initiative, municipalities that have transit facilities within their borders can seek to be designated as a Transit Village by developing plans for dense, mixed-use redevelopment that includes housing near their transit facility. The initiative creates incentives to revitalize areas around transit stations to create attractive, vibrant, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods where people can live, shop, work and play without relying on automobiles.

New Jerseyans Feel Overtaxed, Unloved and Dissatisfied With State Government

Ridgewood NJ, As Tax Day approaches, about eight in ten New Jerseyans feel they pay too much in taxes and are not happy with what the state government is doing about the affordability of living in the Garden State, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll, conducted in collaboration with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA).

Eighty-two percent of residents think they pay too much in taxes for what they get, and large majorities believe the taxes they pay – namely, property taxes (79 percent), the 41.4 cent gas tax (77 percent), and the state income tax (62 percent) – are unfair. Only the sales tax sits well with residents, with over half (58 percent) saying the tax is reasonable.

Trenton Warns “Gas Tax” Could Rise in October !

Trenton NJ, On Monday, the Office of Legislative Services analyst David Drescher warned state legislators that a dip in fuel consumption could trigger an automatic increase in the “gas tax” again this upcoming October.

“The Office of Legislative Services forecast assumes that the statutory target will be met for fiscal year 2020, which might necessitate a further increase in the tax rate if consumption does not substantially increase between now and the fall,” said Drescher.

New Jersey’s gas tax rose 22.6 cents to 37.1 cents per gallon back in October 2016 following a widely-panned deal struck between then-Governor Chris Christie and Democrat legislative leaders.The controversial law includes an automatic annual increases to fuel consumption.

Enforcer for NJ Sex Trafficking Ring Sentenced To Life Plus 20 Years On Racketeering, Murder, And Weapon Charges

New Brunswick NJ, A New Brunswick, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to life plus 20 years in prison for his violent role in a racketeering conspiracy involving multiple brothels that employed illegal aliens throughout New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Wilmer Chavez Romero, a/k/a “Charmin,” 29, was previously convicted of all eight counts of an indictment charging him with one count each of racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering, and conspiracy to harbor aliens; two counts of using a firearm for a violent crime; and two counts of murder in aid of racketeering. He was convicted following a two and a half-week trial before U.S. District Judge William H. Walls, who imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

2019 Business Climate Analysis Shows NJ’s Ranking Continues Downward Spiral

Trenton NJ, As part of its FY 2020 budget testimony before the Legislature today, the New Jersey Business & Industry Association has released an analysis finding that New Jersey once again has the least competitive business climate in the region with the highest corporate income tax, sales tax, income tax and property taxes.
NJBIA’s 2019 Regional Business Climate report shows New Jersey’s positioning declining even further beyond last year’s last-place result due to increased taxes in 2018.

New Jersey’s Marijuana Legalization Goes Up in Smoke

Trenton NJ, Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) issued the following statement expressing his firm commitment to enacting legislation to legalize adult use marijuana and the continuation of social justice reforms:

“While we are all disappointed that we did not secure enough votes to ensure legislative approval of the adult use cannabis bill today, we made substantial progress on a plan that would make significant changes in social policy.”

Sen. Paul Sarlo emerged from the Senate Majority conference room a few minutes ago and was swiftly surrounded by the assembled press.

Finally, as he walked away, he said, “I haven’t changed my mind.”

Sarlo of Bergen County is believed to be a “no” vote.

Senator Declan O’Scanlon Says Medical Marijuana is Separate Issue from Adult use of Recreation Marijuana

Trenton NJ, Taking significant, historic steps toward setting regulation of adult use cannabis, strengthening the state’s medical marijuana program, expanding expungement laws to include expedited services for residents.

Senator Declan O’Scanlon said legislation fixing New Jersey’s medical marijuana program shouldn’t be tied to the fate of a separate effort to legalize the adult use of recreation marijuana.

“If we truly believe that our medical marijuana program exists to ease the suffering of very sick patients, we shouldn’t tie efforts to improve the program to the outcome of a vote on recreational use,” said O’Scanlon (R-Monmouth). “Unfortunately, it seems likely that the very real needs of medical marijuana patients will continue to be held hostage by the supporters of full legalization, who insist that the very different pieces of legislation must live or die together on the floor of the Legislature. It’s despicable.”

Governor Murphy Time to Look At The Numbers And Wake Up

Trenton NJ, Two more jarring statistics were released yesterday regarding New Jersey’s economy. First, the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimated that New Jersey lost 7,700 jobs in February. The state lost 9,300 private sector jobs, as the total number was offset by job gains in the taxpayer funded public sector.

Second, the Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) released an internal poll of 500 New Jersey CPAs, where 70% said they believe Governor Murphy’s budget will harm the State’s economy. A measly 23% viewed the State’s economy as “good” and only 12% think it will get better.
