>Industry group challenges new law guaranteeing power plant subsidies
The ink is hardly dry on a bill designed to promote the building of power plants in New Jersey, but an industry group is already challenging it before a federal agency. (Johnson, NJ Spotlight)

>Ridgewood Cooperative Nursery School Open House March 3rd
The Cooperative Nursery School of Ridgewood, a nonsectarian school, will hold an Open House for the 2011-2012 school year on Thursday, March 3rd from 9:30-11:00 and 12:45-2:00. The school is located at 100 Dayton Street.
The Co-op offers classes for children from 1 ½ to 5 years old. Classes range from Mommy and Me classes to four day per week classes for 4 year olds. Kindergarten enrichment classes are also offered. The school offers both morning and afternoon classes.
The school’s seasoned professional teaching staff members guide students toward social, emotional and physical well-being. Children learn and play in an environment ideally suited to their needs as developing individuals. The program encourages independence, self-discipline and a love for school. Setting the school apart from other nursery schools, The Co-op is organized and run by parents. This enables parents to actively participate in their child’s early learning experience. Music, physical education, field trips, indoor and outdoor play time and an in-house library are just a few of the experiences to which the children are exposed as supplements to the daily education plans.
For more information or to set up a private tour, please call the school at (201) 447-6232 or email [email protected]

>Is the BOE Kidding about “ample parking in the Ridgewood High School lot”
Ridgewood NJ- IS THE BOE KIDDING???…”There is ample parking in the Ridgewood High School lot to handle youth sporting events at the Stadium and Stevens fields, and youth sports parents and coaches will be advised to use this parking lot for drop off and parking. Youth sports groups in town, and visiting teams from other towns, will be instructed to inform their participants’ of the availability of parking at RHS (TENNIS COURTS) and at GRAYDON POOL and VETS FIELD.”
The BOE and RHS administrators were repeatedly told (during the planning stages and after the construction) that parking by the RHS tennis courts is NOT an appropriate solution for Stevens Field. Suggesting that people park at Graydon or Vets is even more preposterous.
The Graydon Pool lot is 2,100 feet (4/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. The Vets Field Lot is 1,580 feet (3/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. The RHS tennis court parking lot is 1100 feet (2/10ths of a mile) from Stevens Field. Even supporters of the field improvements agree! The BOE must create some parking facility at Stevens.
Spectators attending a game 3-4 times a season might not think this is inconvenient to walk these distances for a game. However, for 9-13 year old children and coaches carrying heavy bags and or/equipment 2 – 3 times a week (often at night), these are NOT viable suggestions. Options include using areas at the north or south end of the fields or along the right of way. The parking areas do not need to be paved and can be left as grass or gravel/dirt. There is no need for DEP approval or construction. Together, these areas could accommodate 80-90 cars. The BOE response to not properly address the parking issue is unacceptable.
>Marginalize local residents as one will, in a community they are what matters. Ridgewood’s residents most fundamentally ARE Ridgewood
Ridgewood NJ- Ridgewood is a community. Valley hospital is a member of that community, in it’s own right. But nonetheless Ridgewood is, first and foremost, a wonderful and well established residential community with associated zoning requirements meant to protect the quality and character of it’s neighborhoods. It is a “village” that is friendly to commerce, but not a commercial or industrial site.
Whoever wrote “soccer moms” was dismissing the value of Ridgewood community residents off-handishly, as members of a category to be treated as irrelevant or silly in some way. Whether this Valley supporter represents Valley or not, his/her attitude lies at the very heart of the issue of what is wrong with the Valley’s behavior.
I see it like this. A business wants to expand in Ridgewood and in a way that many surrounding community members find disagreeable. This business is not interested in that opposition but, rather, sees those community interests as an obstacle to be defeated. It sees that community itself as an obstacle, and is behaving accordingly.
Marginalize local residents as one will, in a community they are what matters. Ridgewood’s residents most fundamentally ARE Ridgewood.
State laws that allow public access to government records and participation at open meetings are due for an upgrade, says state Sen. Loretta Weinberg, a Democrat from Bergen County who was her party’s candidate for lieutenant governor in 2009. (Jordan, Home News Tribune)

Back when New Jersey’s charter school law was enacted in 1995, online learning was more futuristic than realistic, barely a notion for lawmakers to ponder, let alone regulate. (Mooney, NJ Spotlight)

Oil prices broke through the $100 a barrel level for the first time in more than two years, amid market fears that Egypt’s turmoil will hit oil flows.
Although both the Suez Canal and a pipeline linking the Red Sea with the Mediterranean continue to operate, the popular uprising to unseat Hosni Mubarak, Egypt’s president, has brought much of the rest of the economy to a halt.

>UN mulls internet regulation options By John Hilvert
WikiLeaks sparks push for tighter controls.
The United Nations is considering whether to set up an inter-governmental working group to harmonise global efforts by policy makers to regulate the internet.
Establishment of such a group has the backing of several countries, spearheaded by Brazil.
At a meeting in New York on Wednesday, representatives from Brazil called for an international body made up of Government representatives that would attempt to create global standards for policing the internet – specifically in reaction to challenges such as WikiLeaks.
The Brazilian delegate stressed, however, that this should not be seen as a call for a “takeover” of the internet.
India, South Africa, China and Saudi Arabia appeared to favour a new possible over-arching inter-government body.
