Ridgewood NJ, Health officials in New Jersey are confirming the first case of a death related to the West Nile virus. Authorities say an elderly Burlington County man died earlier this week after being hospitalized on August 26th.

According to CBS news, the man developed symptoms of fever, weakness, and respiratory distress on August 20th, and was hospitalized nearly a week later. He remained hospitalized till his death. ( https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/09/07/new-jersey-reports-first-west-nile-virus-death-in-burlington-county/ )

This is the first time a West Nile virus-related death has been reported in New Jersey since 2010, when two people died and the state reported 30 confirmed cases.

To date, more than half of the counties in New Jersey have reported at least one confirmed case of West Nile virus. Ocean County has the most confirmed cases in the state, with three.

The elderly and people with a weakened immune system are most at risk of developing serious health complications related to West Nile Virus .

It is recommended that anyone in these two groups should take extra precautions against mosquito bites, such as wearing long-sleeved shirts, using repellent, and eliminating pools of standing water around the home, which are prime breeding grounds for mosquitos.

Stage II Water Restrictions Lifted by Ridgewood Water

Stage II Water Restrictions Lifted by Ridgewood Water
September 7, 2012

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Village Manager Kenneth A. Gabbert announced today that Ridgewood Water Utility Stage II water restrictions, which mandate limitations of outdoor irrigation to alternate odd-even days, are being lifted as of September 7, 2012.

The Stage II water restrictions were mandated July 10, 2012 in order to envoke conservation measures and curtail water usage, keeping average pumping demands at a safe level. The purpose of this initiative was to reasonably limit water usage on a daily basis so as to avoid the high peak usage surges encountered in previous years when irrigation bans were put into effect. The early implementation of the restrictions have proven to be an effective conservation measure while allowing regular watering and maintenance of properties.

Maybe its time for an apology to Ken Gabbert
September 5,2012
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ , So what ever happened to all the negative attacks on the Village manager . That is the questions the puzzles many of our readers. Well before the recent Village Council campaign we seem to remember the Village manager was accused of everything from playing favorites to Union busting by the current administration ., the Patch and the Ridgewood News ?

Since election day the critics of Village Manager: Ken Gabbert have been silent . Some would suggest this bears out the criticism leveled against the current regimen the Ridgewood blog post , “Make no mistake about it Paul Aronsohn thinly vain attempts to discredit the Village Manager has its roots in politics” https://theridgewoodblog.net/make-no-mistake-about-it-paul-aronsohn-thinly-vain-attempts-to-discredit-the-village-manager-has-its-roots-in-politics/

In this post the author went into detail claiming Paul Aronsohn’s soul purpose for discrediting the Village Manger is purely personal gain. It is all about the fact that Aronsohn is a “Jim” McGreevey Democrat and Gabbert a Republican .

So at this point it looks like some members of the community were just blowing smoke with all their attacks on Ken Gabbert ,ie…his “pay raise” ,the fake “7% budget increase” and so on and so on . Maybe its time for an apology.

Money Magazine’s 100 Best Places to Live: Ridgewood no longer makes the cut
4 N.J. towns made the cut

BOROSON ON MONEY

Congratulations are in order for the four New Jersey communities that made Money magazine’s latest list of “America’s 100 Best Places to Live.” The Fabulous Four are Parsippany-Troy Hills (15th place), Franklin (25), Hamilton (75), and Wayne (83).

But deep sympathy should be extended to the five New Jersey communities that made the cut last year, but were given the bum’s rush this year. The Falling Five are Montville (17), South Brunswick (22), Ridgewood (26), Madison (33), and Hillsborough (53).

I wonder how many of Money’s readers understood why the names changed so dramatically from year to year.

Addicted to the internet? It could be all in your genes

THE RIDGEWOOD BLOG.

Addicted to the internet? It could be all in your genes
Women who are obsessed with Facebook, Twitter and online shopping can now blame it on their genes, after scientists claimed internet addiction was hereditary.
By Stephen Adams, Medical Correspondent12:30PM BST 31 Aug 2012

Although the world wide web has been around for less than a generation, Dr Christian Montag from the University of Bonn, said they had found a gene in people who could not drag themselves away. Most were women.

Dr Montag said that, biologically speaking, internet addiction had the same genetic cause as smoking addiction.

He said: “Internet addiction is not a figment of our imagination. Researchers and therapists are increasingly closing in on it.”
Describing the impact of the genetic variant on those who had it, he said: “Within the group of subjects exhibiting problematic internet behaviour this variant occurs more frequently, in particular, in women.

“The sex-specific genetic finding may result from a specific subgroup of internet dependency, such as the use of social networks or such.”

Ridgewood Police: Tips to Prevent Residential Burglaries

Ridgewood Police: Tips to Prevent Residential Burglaries

While we enjoy a very safe community, in the United States, a residential burglary occurs every 13 seconds. In addition to the property loses, victims often develop personal feelings of vulnerability resulting from these crimes. To help prevent becoming a victim, the Ridgewood Police Department offers some helpful hints:

Have sturdy dead-bolt locks on all exterior doors – and use them.

Trim shrubbery back to avoid giving burglars cover, and trim tree branches so there is no access to upper windows.

Leave shades and blinds in normal positions.

Keep porches, entrances, and driveways well lit – consider installing automatic lights that turn on at specific times or when there is movement in the area.

Keep garages and sheds closed and locked when not in use – they offer excellent cover for a burglar attempting to break into a house.

Store tools and ladders securely out of the way when not in use.

Never carry identification tags on your keys.

Do not hide “spare house keys” outside.

Keep daily routines confidential and vary them when possible.

Do not put valuables where they are visible from a door or window of your home.

Do not let strangers into your home to use the phone – offer to make the call for them.

Put lights and television and/or stereo on timers (not just when you are away on vacation).

Make sure your exterior lights are not on during day light hours. (remember to adjust timers with seasonal day light changes).

Do not let newspapers build up on your driveway and/or property – have a trusted neighbor retrieve your newspapers and mail.

Facebook cracks down on fake “Likes”

* New automated system will remove fraudulent Likes

* Less than 1 pct of Likes on any page likely to be removed

By Alexei Oreskovic

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 31 (Reuters) – Facebook Inc is weeding out fake “Likes” on its social network that are being caused by spammers, malware and black marketeers as it strives to maintain credibility as an advertising platform.

Facebook said the number of Likes, or endorsements by users, on corporate pages is likely to drop by less than 1 percent, on average, after the crackdown.

“Newly improved automated efforts will remove those Likes gained by malware, compromised accounts, deceived users, or purchased bulk Likes,” Facebook said in a post on its official blog on Friday.

“While we have always had dedicated protections against each of these threats on Facebook, these improved systems have been specifically configured to identify and take action against suspicious Likes,” the post continued.

SEAL Account Contradicts Obama account of Bin Laden Raid…

1 Books Bin Laden Raid Balt

SEAL tells 60 Minutes book is for honor, not politics

(CBS News) A retired Navy SEAL who was present at the killing of Osama bin Laden tells Scott Pelley in a 60 Minutes interview that his book about the raid is not a political statement, rather it is timed to commemorate the 9/11 attack and give credit to the hundreds of people whose work made the mission a success. The former SEAL Team 6 member, who uses the pseudonym Mark Owen, will appear in his first interview on 60 Minutes, Sunday Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT.

As a security measure, CBS News will not identify “Owen” in any reports about his account of the raid; his face and voice were disguised for his 60 Minutes interview. His book about the raid, “No Easy Day,” will be available next week. The following is an excerpt that appeared on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley:

He calls himself Mark Owen. That’s not his real name. We’ve disguised him and will keep his name confidential for his own safety. Owen was on the helicopter that crashed in bin Laden’s compound. He was the second man in the room when bin Laden was shot, he took the photographs of the body that were never released. But Owen told us the story is not about him — it’s the story of hundreds of Americans who spent years gathering intelligence, planning and training of the SEALs, Owen says, “We just took care of the last 40 minutes.”

We built what we believe is the most accurate model of bin Laden’s compound ever constructed. Owen told us, before the mission, a full size replica of the compound was built in the United States for training and there was a dress rehearsal for the top brass including the chairman of the joint chiefs, Admiral Mike Mullen, and Admiral Eric Olsen, head of Special Operations Command.

TSA Rifles Through Bags, Conducts Pat Downs At Paul Ryan Event

Government agents moving out of airports and into the streets
Steve Watson
Infowars.com
Aug 22, 2012

For some time we have been warning that the TSA is systematically moving beyond the nation’s airports and conducting operations on the streets of America.

The latest example of this kind of activity occurred at an event organized by Mitt Romney’s GOP running mate Paul Ryan this past weekend in The Villages, Florida.

The Shark Tank blog reports that TSA officers showed up alongside Secret Service and the local Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and proceeded to do what they do like no one else does.

“A big WTF is in order here.” the blog notes, adding “We heard that the TSA was going to expand its ummm, ‘reach,’ but to assist in political campaigns is quite the jump in broadening their ‘transportation security horizons.’”

“I counted no less than (6) TSA agents alongside the usual uniformed Secret Service detail-not to be confused with the ‘Men In Black’ looking agents.” blogger Javier Manjarres notes, with a picture of the agents in action (below).
