Systemic Mortgage Fraud – “Hitting the News?”

NJTPC has been reporting on this issue since January.  You can see now two timely articles which are directly linked to tonight’s mortgage presentation.  This is only the tip of the iceberg which may affect you and your home if you have not already have your satisfied Note and Deed.
Remember even though these articles refer to people in forclosure, the fraud affects us all…even those who are paying their mortgages on time, all the time.

This AP article “;Mortgage ‘robo-signing’ goes on” was picked up by The Record today, it is in the financial section of the local paper (page L-8)

>Ed Sullivan : Paul Aronsohn is a breath of fresh air on the Council

>Ed Sullivan : Paul Aronsohn is a breath of fresh air on the Council

Paul Aronsohn is a breath of fresh air on the Council. He views everything with an open and highly inquisitive mind. He wants people to back up their positions with solid data. He challenges old habits and ways of doing things. Forget party affiliation. In pure terms we desparately need more people like him. We need thinkers, particularly those who have the ability to transform ideas into action. In this regard Paul is among the best there is when it comes to taking a rough idea and transforming it into a successful finished project. One does not get to share a seat on Air Force One with the most poweerful man in the free world if he is a dull laggard.

Paul is at the pinnicle of his game. He is sharp, incitefull, incredibly intelligent and his writing and communication skills are far superior to anyone who has graced the Village Council before. By his own admission he is a Democrate, but his actions and voting record tilt far more to the right than the left. Paul is and remains a strong supporter of the Business Community. He understands the need for capital formation and that only well capitalized companies will be able to undertake and complete the kind of large scale projects that are needed that are needed to transform Ridgewood into a thriving semi-urban environment that will offer an array of desirable high wage jobs along with upscale living accommodations that will befit a younger, more upwardly mobile population. This type of transformation will be extremely difficult to achieve and it is my belief Paul is one of only a few people in Ridgewood who possesses the intellecticual capacity and sheer drive to make it happen. Stand with him and watch history being made.

Obama’s Senior Moment: ‘I’ll be turning 50 in a week.’
July 15, 2011 3:38 PM

Actually…he’ll be turning 50 in three weeks. His birthday is August 4, two days after the debt ceiling deadline. Senior moment?

He messed up Malia’s birthday, too, calling her 13 when she was at the time 12 and still days away from becoming a teenager.

Pet Survey : Stop aggravating law abiding citizens!!

The man who came to my door made a snide comment about my dogs barking AFTER HE banged on the door. I immediately told him that I have three dogs and that they were all licensed. I offered to show him the paperwork but he did not want to see it. Instead he immediately began to ask the same questions I answered when I applied for the licenses.

When I said the town already has this info, he told me “That’s what I was told to do”. I told him to get the info from the Health Department records. The Health Department should simply print out this info from their database for the state and canvass only those homes with which they have no contact. Stop aggravating law abiding citizens!!

>The state should not be going door to door asking about the contents of people’s houses

>The state should not be going door to door asking about the contents of people’s houses

Does anyone want to comment on the visits being made by representatives of the NJ state health department to Ridgewood households earlier this week, inquiring about pets in the house?

The gentleman who came to my house wanted to know about unregistered pets as well as registered pets. He seemed to be receiving cooperation from my neighbors, as his clipboard was full of information. Only after I told him that we had no pets did he reveal that he was canvassing for the state, rather than municipal government. I felt that was inappropriate.

The state should not be going door to door asking about the contents of people’s houses. Had I known at the outset he was from the state, I would probably have denied him any information and asked him to leave the premesis immediately.

>Scott Garrett : I support the repeal of the ban on incandescent light bulbs

Garrett: Section 4 of Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (BULB) Act Violates 10th Amendment

WASHINGTON, July 12, 2011 -Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), Chairman of the Constitution Caucus, today released the following statement after voting against H.R. 2417, the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act:

“As a cosponsor of H.R. 91, the original version of Better Use of Light Bulbs Act, I support the repeal of the ban on incandescent light bulbs and fundamentally disagree with the federal government trying to restrict consumers’ choice.  Unfortunately, the bill we considered today was not the same as the bill I originally cosponsored.  When a new version of the legislation was introduced, a provision was added that would prohibit states from creating their own standards on light bulbs.  As Chairman of the Constitution Caucus, I cannot vote for a bill that infringes upon states’ rights and is in violation of the 10th Amendment of the Constitution.”

>I’m not sure who has made the official determination that cell towers are the only option for providing cell coverage

>I’m not sure who has made the official determination that cell towers are the only option for providing cell coverage

I’m not sure who has made the official determination that cell towers are the only option for providing cell coverage, or why. Has anyone seen a rooftop installation, shielded by a screen? Probably not – it would be a true “stealth” design (not a 140′ “pipe cleaner” tree). Even more stealth than the non-stealth downtown rooftop installation that no one ever notices. Or, flush-mounted antennae, painted to match a building’s exterior with an interior equipment room? And, for tricky small spots, a mere “repeater” antenna that amplifies the coverage and aims it directly where the gap exists. How much discussion of these options has taken place? From the tone of this “either/or” tower debate, I’ll hazard a guess at very little, if any.

The only way that the full range of options across the Village can be considered is through a Village-wide approach to appropriate options focused on actual coverage gaps, not by these emotionally, physically and financially draining site-by-site battles pitting neighbor against neighbor against town.
Neighborhoods shouldn’t playing “hot potato” with each tower proposal, tossing it on someone else’s doorstep, hoping that when it finally drops, it won’t be in their backyard. It’s a very risky game that may ultimately be lost, along with the goodwill of other neighbors who no longer wish to supported you when that potato drops in your yard – so why play it?

What independent entity has explored, much less confirmed, whether the goal of contiguous coverage necessitates only a monopole design at those identified sites? Or, is it merely the most cost-efficient option for the carrier? Perhaps is it simply the product of a lack of collaboration, patience, foresight and thoughtful evaluation of all needs and options?

Further, to the point that once one site is selected, it is more likely that only one will be built and therefore there aren’t really 3 sites – under what authority do you conclude that all legal rights related to those other sites vanish once one is selected? And, with any such rights come potential causes of action and legal remedies for damages – damages that, ultimately, may become a financial liability to us all.

Instead of trying find a way to pass along this perpetual problem to someone else, the special committee folks are actually looking to solve it. For everyone.
I urge those who aren’t familiar with all the potential facility options to make themselves familiar. No resident’s property will benefit from a tower – though the degree of detriment will vary by proximity, of course. Although it is impossible to completely prohibit them across the board, if we collaboratively explore non-tower alternatives that work for all residents, the town and the carriers, where’s the problem? Does everyone own stock in monopole companies or something?

Starting from an uninformed position of “there’s a coverage gap, so that means a tower must go either here or there” only serves to polarize our community. We should start by saying, where is coverage needed, and what is the best (and least adverse) manner to achieve contiguous coverage? That should be the carrier’s main concern, not how they can squeeze towers into an available lot and then raise the height high enough to make it work just enough.
Is cooperation and amicable resolution really so very difficult? It is in the best interests of all residents to get behind this – why not achieve your objective by helping your Village community and government out with solutions, instead of using that energy to simply move those problems to someone else’s doorstep?

Democrats, N.J. state treasurer trade criticism over who is to blame for MVC computer crash
WEDNESDAY, 13 JULY 2011 17:21
BY TOM HESTER SR.

NEWJERSEYNEWSROOM.COM

Legislative Democrats and state Treasurer Andrew Eristoff on Wednesday traded barbs on who should be blamed for the lengthy computer crash at the state Motor Vehicle Commission that left customers without service statewide on Monday.

“It’s appalling that Governor Christie has taken one of the remarkable success stories in recent New Jersey government history and essentially trashed it in 18 months,” Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-Bergen) said. “Motorists across this state had become accustomed to brutal waits at motor vehicle agencies, until the reforms of decade ago changed that reality. Now, motor vehicle agencies are again a mess under Governor Christie.

>Cell Towers : Its Déjà vu all over again

>Cell Towers : Its Déjà vu all over again
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ – Its Déjà vu all over again looks like  the bid request that was put out before last nights meeting  was pulled by the council from the agenda. And once again the question remains what is the appeal with the T-Mobile push for Barnett Place?

On the surface it doesn’t seem to be as lucrative for the Village as the Fire House .The Moratorium on Wireless Telecommunication Facility Special Committee people were simply looking for some ground rules for residents and wireless company to provide service and minimize impact on neighborhoods.

The council seems split on the idea of a Special Committee and with good reason ,as we all know often the best intentions create unintended consequences . We are not big fans of government committees but a standard set of regional ground rules for both wireless companies and residents seems a bit over due .According to the Special Committee people we “presently have proposals for the construction of three cellular towers (“wireless telecommunications facilities”) within approximately one mile of each other ”  .

Everyone knows that all three will not be built. The conflicting proposals leave residents with a moving target and cell companies unable to properly plan a seamless network strategy .The current system works like musical chairs companies are forced to propose as many towers as possible , hopefully spreading out the resistance and latching on to the first one that get through the process  ,while ditching the others .

>The creation of the Office of Asset Recovery.

>The creation of the Office of Asset Recovery.

Bergen County Executive Kathleen A. Donovan today announced the creation of the Office of Asset Recovery. During last year’s campaign Ms. Donovan pledged to establish such an office “…to review fees paid to consultants and other vendors, investigate questionable payments and sue to collect moneys improperly paid by the County or any of its agencies.”

According to Ms. Donovan, “last year we pledged to reduce the cost to taxpayers by freezing County government spending, stopping governmental waste and recovering as much money as possible through a new, dedicated, office.  Today’s announcement fulfills yet another commitment.  We cut spending by $30 million in the proposed budget we inherited; we have cut waste in all areas including the elimination and sale of over 50 employee operated County cars and we have now created the Office of Asset Recovery.”

Ms. Donovan said that the new Office will function within the County’s Department of Law and will be self-sustaining.  She said that while the Office will seek civil remedies “any criminal activity uncovered during our ongoing reviews will be immediately referred to local, state or federal authorities for criminal prosecution.”

“This is not a witch hunt,” Ms. Donovan said.  “But it is clear to anyone who has followed County government spending practices that there have been excessive and sometimes redundant costs.”

She continued, “We plan to review and question construction costs, particularly change orders, which have driven costs beyond acceptable levels.  And we plan to assess every purchase to make certain that the County got the full bang for its buck.”

Ms. Donovan concluded, “Not all government waste is the product of fraud and misconduct.  Vendors and consultants make billing errors just like everyone else.  While rooting out official misconduct, our Office of Asset Recovery will also welcome information regarding unintentional billing errors and work with the private interests involved to resolve those mistakes.”
