Paramus NJ, A brazen daylight robbery attempt at a Paramus jewelry store was quickly thwarted by the swift action of the Paramus Police Department, leading to the arrest of three teenagers from New York.
The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on October 21st when officers were dispatched to Eric Jewelers on Route 17 North following reports of a theft in progress.
The Snatch-and-Run: How the Theft Unfolded
According to police officials, the robbery was executed using a classic distraction tactic:
- The Request: Two individuals entered the store and asked to examine an expensive gold chain valued at approximately $10,000.
- The Flee: One suspect allegedly placed the chain around his neck and immediately bolted from the store.
- The Recovery: Fortunately, the alert store manager was able to recover the chain just as the two suspects were entering a waiting getaway vehicle driven by a third person.
Although the group fled the scene, the Paramus Police quickly located and stopped the vehicle near A&S Drive in Paramus, taking all three individuals into custody.
Facing Felony Charges: Adults and Juvenile
The suspects, all from New York, are now facing serious theft and criminal charges in Bergen County.
The arrests highlight the severe legal consequences for involving minors in criminal activity.
Ties to Other Local Thefts?
The Paramus Police Department is not done with the investigation. They have confirmed they are currently assisting the River Edge Police Department with a similar reported theft that occurred just days earlier, on October 17th, at Mathias Jewelers.
This ongoing cooperation between Bergen County law enforcement agencies aims to determine if the same individuals or organized groups are targeting jewelry stores across the region. This incident serves as a crucial reminder for retailers to maintain high security and vigilance, especially along major corridors like Route 17.
