CBS Poll: 84% of Democrats Want ObamaCare Changed or Repealed

A fascinating number in Wednesday’s CBS poll is that only 7% of the American public want ObamaCare “kept in place.” A full 93% either believe that changes are needed to the law (48%) or want a full repeal (43%). This pits President Obama and Democrat lawmakers — who thus far have refused to make any meaningful changes — against 93% of the American people and 72% of Democrats.

Moreover, only 12% of Democrats want ObamaCare “kept as is.” Another 12% want it repealed.

If only 12% of Democrats want nothing changed with ObamaCare, there is no question that Democrat lawmakers and the president are defying their own base with this ongoing refusal to make any real changes to the law. Furthermore, they are blocking proposed changes, including changes proposed by fellow Democrats.

The growing narrative from the media and ObamaCare champions is that Democrats need to “stay the course.” Analyzing the Democrats’ political options, ABC’s Rick Klein writes today:

Lost in the Democratic angst over Obamacare is a simple fact of 2014 politics: They don’t really have any choice but to own it. … No quantity of votes on “fixes” now will matter in the broad messaging wars later; no lawmaker, and virtually no Democratic challenger, will be able to seal him or herself off from potential political damage.

Klein is not alone with this advice. But how exactly is that a smart play when 84% of Democrats disagree?

  1. Even if reasonable minds could have differed a few years ago when Obamacare was being forced down our collective throats, no reasonable person can say that Obamacare is a good idea now. Repealing this law is the only responsible thing to do now so we can stop the damage it is causing — by next fall it will likely result in the cancellation of employer insurance policies including yours.

    1. I guess you must have been out of the country during the debate Obamacare is 100% disaster and it failed because,IT EXACERBATED EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM . instead of being so busy calling everyone a racist who pointed out the obvious flaws with this piece of junk you should have been listening

  2. Obamacare wasn’t forced down anyone’s throats. It was passed by both houses of Congress, signed into law, and found constitutional by the Supreme Court.

It was a good idea when the Heritage Foundation thought of it, it was a good idea when Governor Romney implemented it in Massachusetts, and it’s a good idea now.

Stop confusing a bad web site with a good law. You’re being dishonest.

    1. its a bad law set up buy clueless people and voted for by even more clueless , but you deserve what you get no jobs now no healthcare , and by the way because the Heritage Foundation worked on masscare they were the biggest critic of obamacare , the website is a pathetic joke the law is a smoking pile of crap

  3. Do you really think the law was passed using normal procedures? Go back and read how they did it (not to mention that they lied about what the law would do).

The Supreme Court did not rule that the entire law was consitutional (the entire law was not challenged on all possible grounds in that case). Moreover, part of it was struck down with respect to the federal government’s attempt to withhold money from states that do not comply with Obamacare’s expanded medicaid program. And there are still more constitutional challenges to it pending. The Supreme Court also had to rewrite the “penalty” to call it a tax in order to claim it was constitutional — which may still cause the downfall of the law because tax bills must originate in the house, not the Senate. Harry Reid thinks he can get around that by taking a house bill unrelated to heathcare, stripping everything out of it, and write a new bill — i.e., Obamacare. The Supreme Court still has to weigh in on that one. Stay tuned.

Why do liberals not understand the distinction between states and the federal government. I don’t like Romneycare either, but it wasn’t unconsitutional because states are not subject to the same constraints as the federal government. As you are likely a product of our public schools, I can understand why you don’t understand our system of government.

I would call you dishonest as you improperly labeled me, but that would be giving you too much credit. The more appropriate word for you is ignorant.

  4. James, I was being kind saying that reasonable minds could differ back then (just trying not to gloat). My point is that we need to repeal this thing and everyone should agree on that now even if they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) see it back then. I was around and was one of the people being called everything in the book for not supporting Obama.

    1. lol , yes you were , I responded because some of the Obamabats are still trying to lie there way out of this

  5. LOL. Well, don’t be too hard on them, they don’t know the difference betweent the truth and a lie (no one was allowed to teach them that because that would require accepting a moral code based on a judeo/christian belief system). All that matters is that they get to feel good about themselves no matter the consequences to everyone else.
