Since I was 13, I dreamed of owning and running my own restaurant. This happened when I opened Technique. Today, I realize that a dream can be more than you ever expect, and that it is destined to be shaped by reality.
As I reflect on my dream of 13, I had to recognize that my present reality is much grander. I am blessed to have a charming and beautiful wife, two fantastic children and a universe of friends from childhood, college, the financial and culinary worlds, and everyday life. Spending time with my wife, our children and our friends has been the dream that I am living and that was diminishing. I miss my family. I miss my friends.
I love Technique. I loved creating this restaurant. I loved prepping every detail of each dish. I loved composing the finished product. I loved working side by side with my colleagues. I loved visiting with our guests. Each night I would joyfully speak with nearly every diner, happy that I could serve them a great meal. I took pride in every facet of Technique. It has been my happy place. But my family and friends are my happiest place. They are everything to me. And for this reason, I am closing Technique.
Thank you to all who have dined and all who have helped me along the way (and there are many). Thank you to my friends and family for welcoming me back with open arms.
