Hackensack NJ,while many of us were lying low last week due to the smokey air caused by Canadian Wildfires , first responders did not have the same opportunity.
City of Hackensack Fire Fighters had a very full week and didn’t let the poor air quality interfere with any other their efforts.

On June 3rd Lt. Jeff Giarrusso, F/F’s John Davis, Michael O’Reilly and F/F Kevin Cribben received a Unit Citation Award from The New Jersey & New York Volunteer Fireman’s Association for their actions at a fire that occurred on the morning of December 26, 2022 at 64 Prospect Ave. A check was also presented to the Hackensack Fire Department Widows and Orphans fund.
On the morning June 5th at 08:06 Deputy 4, Rescue 1, Engine 4, Engine 1 and Safety Chief responded to 409 South River Street on reported motor vehicle accident with rollover. Upon arrival units found two car MVA with one vehicle on top of the other with one operator still inside the vehicle. Members quickly stabilized the vehicle’s and removed the driver. No injuries were reported and units remained on scene until city tow arrived.
The afternoon of June 5th at 1:51 pm Deputy 4, Rescue 1, and Engine 5 responded to 2 Kinderkamack Road for reported vehicle struck building with air bag deployment. Upon arrival units found vehicle struck the building causing damage and resting on its side on the sidewalk. Vehicle operator self extricated and 3 patients transported to HUMC with minor injuries by HUMC BLS. Units remained on scene until city tow arrived.
On June 6th at 6:49pm Deputy 4 Rescue 1 and Engine 2 responded in front of 300 Prospect Ave on report of motor vehicle accident involving a utility pole. Arriving units found single car accident with a utility plow down with live primary wires in the roadway. Driver and passenger were able to self extricate prior to fire department arrival. Firefighters provided first aid and checked for injuries on both vehicle occupants until the arrival of BLS who took over patient care and transported both to HUMC. Members stretched 1 3/4 hose line as a precaution and requested PSE&G Electric to respond ASAP. Units remained on scene until PSE&G arrived.
On June 6th Engine 4 and Rescue 1 responded to 205 Passaic Street on reported car fire. Upon arrival units found a fully involved passenger vehicle fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the vehicle. No injuries were reported. (Lead Photo )
