EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — With the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup fast approaching and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey set to host eight major matches, including the final on July 19, nearly 100 civil rights organizations have issued a joint letter to FIFA urging the organization to address immigration and human rights concerns in the United States.
FIFA Pressured to Speak Out on U.S. Immigration Policies
The letter, sent on July 1, highlights concerns over the treatment of foreign visitors, citing previous U.S. immigration policies including travel bans and ICE raids initiated under former President Donald Trump. The groups call on FIFA to leverage its global influence to ensure protections for the millions of fans and foreign visitors expected to travel to the U.S. for the tournament.
“If FIFA continues to stay silent, not only will millions be placed at risk, but the FIFA brand will also be used as a public relations tool to whitewash the reputation of an increasingly authoritarian government,” the letter reads.
Organizations backing the letter include Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the ACLU, the NAACP, and various labor unions from eight World Cup host states: New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, California, Massachusetts, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Missouri.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino assured the international community during a May 15 event in Paraguay that “the world is welcome in America.” He emphasized that players and fans alike would face no issues entering the country.
At a White House event on May 6, Vice President JD Vance echoed the welcome but also issued a warning: “We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the game. But when the time is up, they’ll have to go home.”
Vance referenced the role of U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in enforcing immigration rules post-tournament.
Record Low Border Crossings Reported
Despite heightened immigration scrutiny, U.S. Border Patrol reported only 6,070 illegal border crossings in June, marking a record-setting low—down 15% from March. Authorities also confirmed no releases of illegal immigrants into the country for the month.

The majority of Americans want illegals removed from the USA. They can reapply through legal channels. Common sense and the rule of law needs to be reinstated.
No, I would like the undocumented hardworking people who live here and pay taxes to have a better system for legalization. I do not want them picked up and deported after they go to court in an attempt to do the right thing. I see these folks and their children lined up at 6am to get I to a building that opens at 8am so they legalize themselves.
And before you say this ain’t happening, I work in a federal building with several immigration courts and I’ve seen it with my own eyes. So don’t try and call b******* on me.

We have 50-60 million illegal immigrants from all over the world now in our country. Most of them are modern day slaves – cooking, cleaning, building, and serving people like you so you can live a more comfortable life. We’ll the fact of the matter is these people shouldnt be here.
