Ridgewood NJ, a routine Monday afternoon in the 400 block of Overbrook Road, Ridgewood, NJ, turned into a dramatic scene on November 17, 2025, when a passenger car parked in a residential driveway suddenly caught fire.

Ridgewood Firefighters Prevent Disaster

The incident, which occurred late in the afternoon while residents were inside the single-family home, posed an immediate threat to the adjacent garage and the rest of the structure.

According to reports from the Ridgewood Fire Department (RFD), firefighters from Platoon B quickly responded to the vehicle fire. The Captain on the scene swiftly recognized the danger of the fire spreading (known as “exposure concerns”) and upgraded the assignment.

Fortunately, the quick and effective action of Engine 35 prevented a potential catastrophe. Firefighters were able to rapidly extinguish the car fire, successfully preventing any fire extension or involvement of the nearby structures, including the garage.

Key Takeaway: The RFD’s fast response was critical in saving the home from significant fire damage.

Safety First: Ventilation and Investigation

Once the flames were out, the dedicated members of the RFD didn’t just pack up. They took the extra step of venting the home to remove all lingering fire-related odors and smoke, ensuring the air quality and safety for the occupants before leaving the scene.

The Ridgewood Police Department (RPD) Patrol Division also responded to the incident. Crucially, no injuries were reported in connection with the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine how the passenger vehicle ignited while parked in the driveway.

This successful operation highlights the professionalism and dedication of the first responders, including the Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 and the Ridgewood Police Department.
