Ridgewood NJ, a dryer fire at a Warren Place home in Ridgewood filled the basement with thick smoke and caused visible damage to the property early Saturday evening, May 3rd.
The blaze, which originated in a clothes dryer, sent flames bursting through a rear vent of the single-family residence. The intense heat burned away a section of the home’s exterior siding, adding to the damage.
Ridgewood Police Department Officer Vincenzo Vaccarella was the first to arrive on scene. Despite heavy smoke preventing access to the basement, Officer Vaccarella emptied a handheld fire extinguisher into the exposed vent in a brave effort to contain the flames.
Ridgewood Fire Department crews arrived shortly after and deployed a charged hose line into the basement, successfully extinguishing the fire before it could spread further. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Members of Ridgewood Emergency Services assisted with traffic control and on-scene rehab, ensuring safety for residents and responders alike.
The incident highlights the importance of routine dryer maintenance and the quick, coordinated response of Ridgewood’s first responders.
