Mahwah has been named the safest community in New Jersey by a website that provides home security comparisons and reviews.

But one of the main reasons cited for the top ranking is a controversial app that is scheduled to be discussed at tonight’s Township Council meeting.

Mahwah Stay Connected is an app that Mayor Bill Laforet and Police Chief James Batelli purchased without the council’s knowledge. Typically, the council is asked to approve such expenditures. The service cost about $3,000 for 2013 and would run about $6,000 for 2014.

The contract with app provider PublicStuff Inc. began in September and was set to expire Dec. 31. Continuing the service was expected to be decided during budget discussions.

“I’m happy the app has gotten some recognition,” Laforet said. “It’s working in a very good way.”

  1. It should be called busybody.com

It is ironic that people complain about increasing taxes and then want an app to report road kill. How about you take a shovel and put the stupid squirrel in the trash?

Lets try shifting to see something, do something instead of encouraging this idea of see something and whine about it on your stupid phone.

  2. voted #1 app by hitleryouth.com

  3. and who is reading the complaint.

  4. I think the app is a great idea.
Years ago when we had considerate people living in town, we didn’t need an ‘app’ nor did we need all kinds of ordinances.
But since the inconsiderate new arrivals like to:
Put signs up on the property
Let their dogs bark day and nite
    park in the street 24/7
Ignore every other quality of life ordinance
Its time to get that app! It would pay for itself with the fines and increase compliance to keep Ridgewood the nice town it used to be.

  5. LOl! Ignorance is Bliss!
