Councilwoman-elect Susan Knudsen thanks supporters

To the editor:

On Tuesday, Ridgewood residents chose the two candidates for Village Council who they believed would best guide the future of the village, partly because we care about Ridgewood as deeply as they do.

In deciding to support Mike Sedon and me, residents recognized our shared belief in the importance of maintaining the unique charm and character of Ridgewood, attaining a balance of healthy growth and providing responsible, efficient government.

Since picking up a candidate packet in January, I have been touched by the support, time, energy and effort of so many willing to work toward our mutual goal of preserving the aspects of village life that make Ridgewood a special place to live, work and visit.

I’m writing to express my thanks to those who signed my nominating petitions, made campaign contributions, delivered signs, displayed “Vote Knudsen” lawn signs, wrote letters of endorsement, helped create campaign literature, hosted coffees, parties and rallies, made phone calls, sent emails, donated office space and telephone use, offered words of support and more.

Village grassroots organizations, thank you for your unequivocal support. The Preserve Graydon Coalition, Concerned Residents of Ridgewood, Citizens for a Better Ridgewood and Ridgewood Eastside Development exemplify what’s fine about our community, raising our level of awareness to protect Ridgewood’s future.

Thank you to my wonderful family and dear friends for their unwavering support.

Finally, thank you, to the 2,723 fellow residents (plus myself!) who entered a voting booth and placed an “x” next to my name, and to all those who took the time to exercise their right to vote.

Susan Knudsen, Councilwoman-Elect

Ridgewood

  1. Is there any truth to the rumor that despite the long standing practice/tradition of appointing the highest vote getter of the most recent municipal election as the Village’s new deputy mayor, Mayor Paul Aronsohn, Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck, and current Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli will refuse to vote Councilwoman-Elect Susan Knudsen in as the VIllage’s next deputy mayor during July 1’s Reorganization Meeting?

  2. PLEASE, can all those residents that still have these ugly signs displayed, take them down? The election was so one week ago!

  3. Why don’t you ask them directly instead of spreading rumors ? https://www2.ridgewoodnj.net/council.cfm Geez. BTW, I hope grammatical skills aren’t a requirement for Village govt… “Mike Sedon and me” ?

  4. #1, I had to laugh at your post. The scenario you posit is devious, and would be a travesty. Given the track record of the three amigos, though, I can see them doing it. At the same time, it sounds like something that at this point would only exist as a notion in their minds, and not an active conspiracy.

So we’ve got this rumor. Who started it? The three amigos are pondering what to do, but haven’t even had a chance to speak to each other, so they aren’t the source.

I suspect the source of the rumor is you, #1. You wisely put very little past the three amigos, acting collectively at least, and feeling like you know them like the back of your hand, you’ve decided that what’s needed is a shot across the bow to encourage politically chaste behavior. “Don’t even think about doing [X], you scurvy scalliwags!”

“any truth the rumor that…” I like your line of thought #1, but you should be more subtle in the future!

  5. Relax …. folks…………… those signs will be used again … in four years and save a few bucks for the winners.

  6. “In deciding to support Mike Sedon and me, residents recognized our shared belief…”

Where’s the grammatical error here, #3?

Had she simply said “In deciding to support me, residents recognized my belief…”, would the sentence not have made perfect sense and been grammatically sound? If so, why is the sentence ungrammatical if instead of one object, the residents settled on two objects worthy of their support?

Grammar trolls are universally annoying when they are correct. How much more annoying are you, when your grammatical advice is so clearly incorrect? Thank heavens I can remain anonymous too, or else what kind of a reputational risk would I be running by wasting my and PJBlogger’s time correcting a grammatically-challenged grammar troll?

  7. #3 the line is grammatically correct. Good thing you’re just the village idiot and not the grammar police.
Residents know tradition is high vote getter is deputy mayor. If Knudsen had come in under Al’s 2012 total maybe there would be an argument to keep deputy mayor Al. But Tuesday’s numbers make it obvious she deserves it. Anyway, let’s Give the three a chance to show they will do the right thing rather than immediately assume they won’t.

  8. #3 “Mike Sedon and me” is grammatically correct. It’s not supposed to be “Mike Sedon and I”. I hope she’s Mayor and has some influence.

  9. If the Three Amigos don’t follow custom and appoint Susan as deputy mayor, they will no longer be referred to as the Three Amigos – they will become The Three Stooges forevermore.

  10. The Three A******* is more like it.

  11. There is no question that Susan should be the next Deputy Mayor. And who knows who the new mayor will be?????

  12. Susan should be Mayor. She received more votes then our current Mayor even with his high priced Whitehorse Strategist helping him.

  13. There were a lot more candidates last time. The votes got split. Not that I’m defending him, but statistically there’s a difference.
