Ridgewood NJ, Attention North Jersey drivers! The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) has abruptly closed its vehicle inspection station in Lodi, Bergen County, after a serious safety incident involving falling debris from the ceiling.

The closure is temporary but indefinite, pending a full structural assessment and repair plan.

What Happened at the Lodi MVC?

On October 23, inspection staff reported large pieces of debris falling inside the facility. An immediate investigation revealed a severe structural issue:

  • Structural Failure: The supporting structure of the building’s concrete roof planks had shifted.
  • Safety Hazard: This shifting caused several heavy planks, each weighing hundreds of pounds, to come loose from their bearing points.

“The MVC decided, for the sake of customer and staff safety, to suspend inspection operations and close the Lodi facility until a qualified engineering firm could complete an assessment and develop a repair plan,” confirmed William Connolly, press secretary for the MVC.

The agency is prioritizing safety and is currently awaiting a full engineering evaluation to determine the extent of the damage and the timeline for reopening the Lodi inspection station. Updates will be provided once a finalized repair schedule is established.

Where to Get Your Vehicle Inspected Now

If you are a Lodi MVC customer, you must use one of the many alternative locations in the interim. The MVC encourages drivers to visit nearby state inspection centers or utilize the extensive network of private facilities.

Alternative State Inspection Stations:

  • Secaucus MVC
  • Paramus MVC

Remember, New Jersey operates 25 state inspection sites and has over 1,200 private facilities authorized to conduct official vehicle inspections.

Find an Alternative: For the most up-to-date information on inspection locations, hours, and wait times, visit the official MVC website. Don’t delay your mandatory inspection—use an alternate site today!

  1. “The closure is temporary but indefinite” (new government phrase)
    LOL
    Who was the original builder?

    1. all contracts for public owned projects are required to use M/WBE,
minority and women owned business (competence is NOT a requirement) subcontractors.
Use someone incompetent for paint and landscape but not the *#)$ roof

  2. I thought that place was an immigration office.
