ENGLEWOOD, NJ — As scorching temperatures continue to grip the region, the City of Englewood Fire Department has been working tirelessly, responding to over a dozen emergency calls amid the extreme heat.
One of the more serious incidents occurred late Monday morning, when a vehicle veered off the road along Broad Avenue, near Fountain Road, causing significant concern for public safety.
Car Crashes Into Utility Conduits on Broad Avenue
The vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck several utility conduits that spanned a nearby ditch. Fire crews were quickly dispatched to the scene to assess and secure the area.
Utilities Secured by PSEG, Company Recall Ordered
With the risk of live utilities being impacted, PSE&G (Public Service Electric and Gas) was immediately notified to secure the utility lines. Due to the complexity of the situation and the extended response needed, a Company Recall was ordered to bring in additional resources, while the Engine Company remained committed to the scene.
Fire Department Busy During Dangerous Heat
This incident was just one of more than a dozen calls handled by Englewood firefighters throughout the day, many of which were heat-related. The department continues to urge residents to take precautions during the ongoing heatwave and to stay hydrated, indoors, and alert to signs of heat exhaustion.
