DOJ Deploys Monitors: Focus on Transparency and Ballot Security in NJ Election

Paterson NJ, as New Jersey prepares for its upcoming election next week, questions surrounding election safety and security have been raised, prompting action from the federal government. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced it will dispatch federal monitors to key polling sites across the state.

The DOJ’s stated goal for deploying these monitors is clear: to “ensure transparency, ballot security and compliance with federal law” throughout the election process. This federal oversight aims to reinforce public confidence in the integrity of the voting system.

The Focus on Mail-In Voting and Historical Concerns

New Jersey is one of the states that utilizes an extensive mail-in voting system, automatically sending an absentee ballot to every registered voter who signs up. While this system increases accessibility, the focus on ballot security is magnified, particularly in regions with historical issues.

Several areas in Northern New Jersey, including Jersey City, Hoboken, and parts of Passaic County, have had past incidents involving alleged irregularities concerning mail-in ballots. This history has led to heightened scrutiny of the upcoming election process in these areas.

Passaic County Under Scrutiny

Passaic County specifically has drawn attention due to recent controversies and reported issues with its election administration practices.

  • Security Concerns: Reports indicate that the Passaic County Board of Elections had previously blocked security cameras in ballot storage areas and did not require sign-in logs for workers handling the critical mail-in ballots. The presence of federal monitors is intended to address these security concerns directly.
  • Recent Legal Actions: The county has also been the site of recent legal actions aimed at preserving the integrity of local elections. These issues underscore the urgency behind the federal government’s decision to increase monitoring efforts.

Ultimately, the deployment of federal monitors is a measure intended to provide accountability and reassurance, ensuring all citizens can participate in a secure and fair electoral process as the state heads to the polls.

  1. Don’t waste your time….ballot stuffing has already occurred.

Check the mail-in votes…..90% for Democrats.

    1. is there someplace online I can check the party breakout of mail-in votes? say for the 2021 NJ gubernatorial election?

I’d guess it may vary a lot by the County?

      1. In Glen Rock, the mail-in and absentee ballots always save the Dems and keep our council HISTORIC.

  2. The Democrat Party would be wiped out were not for ballot cheating. Covid was a prime example of cheating at its unchecked limits.
