Fair Lawn NJ, a licensed massage therapist in Fair Lawn has had her license temporarily suspended and has been permanently banned from owning or operating a massage therapy business, according to a statement released Wednesday by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.
Ana C. Velazco, owner of Fabsilhouette, also known as the Medical Massage Network, agreed to a five-year suspension of her massage and bodywork therapy license after state officials determined she had performed invasive medical procedures far beyond the legal scope of her licensure.
Performed Medical Services Without a License
According to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Velazco offered and performed unauthorized procedures, including:
-
Post-operative suture removal
-
Fluid drainage for cosmetic surgery patients
-
Mesolipo (a fat-dissolving microinjection technique)
-
Microneedling, which involves puncturing the skin to promote collagen production
These procedures are restricted to licensed medical professionals in New Jersey. The investigation revealed that Velazco has no formal medical training and is not a licensed physician.
Investigation and Legal Action
The allegations stem from a March 2023 inspection by the Division’s Enforcement Bureau. Investigators discovered and photographed medical equipment inside the facility’s treatment rooms, including syringes, topical anesthetics, needle tips, and hazardous medical waste.
To resolve the charges, Velazco entered into a Final Consent Order with both the State Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and the State Board of Medical Examiners on May 30, 2025.
Penalties and Restrictions
Under the terms of the order:
-
Velazco’s license is suspended for five years, effective immediately
-
She is permanently barred from owning, operating, or managing any massage therapy business in New Jersey
-
She is also barred from practicing as a solo massage and bodywork therapist
-
If her license is reinstated after the suspension, she must practice under supervision only
-
She has been fined $15,000 for the unlicensed practice of medicine
State Officials Speak Out
Attorney General Platkin emphasized the seriousness of the violation:
“Our professional licensing laws require individuals who offer certain types of services to meet fundamental training and education requirements to deter unqualified practice and prevent serious harm,” said Platkin. “Professionals who put the public at risk by performing services that exceed the scope of their licenses… will face serious consequences.”
Public Health and Consumer Protection
This case highlights the importance of verifying that healthcare and wellness providers are properly licensed to perform specific procedures. Services such as Mesolipo, microneedling, and post-operative care must be performed by qualified medical professionals, not massage therapists.
