Fair Lawn NJ, quick action by the Fair Lawn Police Department prevented a local resident from losing $35,000 in an elaborate scam on March 26, 2025.
How the Scam Worked
Scammers tricked the victim into granting remote access to her computer and falsely claimed that $35,000 had been mistakenly deposited into her bank account. They then instructed her to withdraw the cash and hand it over to a “courier” who would arrive to collect it.
However, Fair Lawn police officers responded just in time.
Suspects Arrested on the Spot
When Jainshe You (40) and Zibo Zhang (50)—both from Flushing, NY—arrived to collect the money, Fair Lawn detectives were waiting.
-
Zibo Zhang was charged with conspiracy to commit theft.
-
Jainshe You was charged with theft by deception.
-
Both were arrested and transported to Bergen County Jail.
Police Officers Praised for Their Quick Response
A huge shoutout to P.O.’s Uriarte, Messina, Spear, D/Lt. O’Shaughnessy, D/Sgt. Wyka, and Det. Rypkema for their excellent police work in stopping the scam.
