Hawthorne NJ, a devastating collision between a fully loaded tri-axle dump truck and an SUV claimed one life late Wednesday morning in Hawthorne, prompting a massive emergency response and widespread traffic detours.
🚨 One Dead, Multiple Injured in Major Crash
According to local media reports, the crash occurred just before 11:45 AM on Wednesday, June 11, at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Goffle Hill Road. The impact left one person dead and two others injured, who were transported via separate ambulances to nearby hospitals.
There are also unconfirmed reports that a first responder may have been hospitalized in the aftermath of the crash.
⚠️ Hazardous Materials Team Called for Diesel Spill
Due to a diesel fuel spill from the overturned dump truck, a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response team was dispatched to the scene. Emergency crews worked to contain the spill and prevent any environmental damage, while simultaneously tending to the injured and managing the accident scene.
⚡ Downed Utility Pole Complicates Rescue Efforts
The force of the crash knocked down a utility pole carrying live wires, further complicating the emergency response. First responders had to work around the downed wires while navigating the debris and overturned truck.
The damaged pole also forced a prolonged road closure on surrounding streets, with traffic detoured for several hours as crews worked to secure the area and begin cleanup operations.
🛑 Truck Removal Delayed Until Thursday
Authorities confirmed that due to the downed utility infrastructure, the removal of the dump truck will be delayed until Thursday, June 12. Utility crews must first address the power lines and pole to ensure the scene is safe for recovery operations.
