MAHWAH, NJ — A woman accused of fleeing the scene of a Bergen County hotel stabbing was arrested in Florida more than two months after the alleged crime, according to authorities. Yorhelys Montilla was taken into custody on July 7 at a Florida hotel room, following a coordinated law enforcement effort.
🔪 Stabbing Incident in Mahwah Hotel
The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on May 3, 2025, when Mahwah Police responded to a reported medical emergency at a local hotel. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim suffering from stab wounds sustained during a violent altercation. The suspect, later identified as Yorhelys Montilla, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Montilla was quickly identified as the suspect, but attempts to locate her in the days following the incident were unsuccessful.
🕵️ Multi-Agency Investigation Leads to Arrest
With Montilla on the run, the Mahwah Police Department sought the public’s help and began working with federal agencies. A critical tip provided Detective Lt. Kevin Hebert with a possible location. He shared this information with the FBI, who coordinated with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department in Florida.
On July 7, authorities executed an arrest warrant at a Florida hotel, where Montilla was found and taken into custody without incident. She is currently being held at a Florida county jail, awaiting extradition to New Jersey, where she will face charges related to aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
