Garfield NJ, a former Garfield Middle School teacher, Amy Dovidio, 47, of Pompton Plains, is facing serious sexual assault charges involving a student. However, her arraignment has been rescheduled and reassigned to a new judge in Bergen County’s criminal division.
Case Reassigned to New Judge
Dovidio appeared in court on March 3, 2025, before Judge Christopher Kazlau, who declined to arraign her as her case will be transferred to Judge James Doyle, a newly assigned judge in the criminal division. The arraignment is now scheduled for March 31 at 9 a.m.
Charges and Allegations
Dovidio was arrested in February 2024 and faces multiple charges, including:
- Aggravated sexual assault
- Sexual assault
- Endangering the welfare of a child
- Aggravated criminal sexual contact
- Criminal sexual contact
According to police records, the assaults allegedly took place in multiple locations, including:
- Inside Garfield Middle School
- A home in Cedar Grove
- A vehicle across three counties
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office reports that the alleged victim was a Garfield Middle School student between the ages of 13 and 17 at the time.
Timeline of Events
Dovidio has not worked for the Garfield School District since December 31, 2021. However, authorities say the alleged incidents occurred between January 1, 2015, and June 12, 2018.
