New Orleans LA, the tragic New Year’s terror attack in New Orleans claimed the life of former Princeton University football standout Tiger Bech, who was among the 10 people killed when a pickup truck plowed into a crowded Bourbon Street celebration early Wednesday. The incident, now being investigated as an act of terrorism by the FBI, left over 30 people injured.
Remembering Tiger Bech
Tiger Bech, who competed for the Princeton Tigers football team from 2016 to 2018, earned second-team All-Ivy League honors as a return specialist in his last two seasons. Known for his grit and determination, Bech’s nickname, “Tiger,” matched his energy both on and off the field.
Princeton Tigers coach Bob Surace shared heartfelt memories of Bech:
“He was full of energy, full of life, and somehow always excelled in the key moments,” Surace told ESPN.
Bech had been working as a stockbroker in New York and was visiting New Orleans for the holidays.
A Brother’s Tribute
Bech’s brother, Jack Bech, who played football at Texas Christian University, honored him on social media:
“Love you always, brother. You inspired me every day. Now you get to be with me in every moment. I got this family, T—don’t worry. This is for us.”
Details of the Attack
The FBI identified the suspect as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas. The truck used in the attack bore an ISIS flag, raising concerns about potential terrorist affiliations.
According to authorities, Jabbar drove the truck into the crowd before exiting the vehicle armed with a gun. He was fatally shot by police at the scene. Investigators are now probing whether Jabbar had direct connections to any terrorist organizations.
Community Mourning
The senseless tragedy has left a profound impact on the New Orleans and Princeton communities. While authorities work to uncover the motive behind the attack, friends, family, and former teammates continue to celebrate Tiger Bech’s life and legacy.
As the investigation unfolds, this heartbreaking event serves as a somber reminder of the importance of vigilance during large public gatherings.
