Fort Lee, NJ — Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella has announced the arrest of 71-year-old Manuel A. The arrest was made following a thorough investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, led by Chief Matthew Finck, in collaboration with the Teaneck Police Department, under Chief Andrew McGurr.
The investigation began on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after the Teaneck Police Department reported an alleged historical sexual assault of a juvenile. According to authorities, the investigation revealed that Barrantes sexually assaulted and endangered a child under the age of 16 on multiple occasions between August 2016 and August 2018 in Teaneck, NJ.
As a result of the findings, Barrantes was arrested on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Fort Lee and formally charged with the following:
-
First-Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault – N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(2)(a)
-
Second-Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child – N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1)
Following his arrest, Barrantes was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, where he is being held pending a first appearance at the Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella emphasized that these charges are allegations and that Barrantes is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. He also extended his gratitude to both the Teaneck and Fort Lee Police Departments for their critical assistance in the investigation.
