Ridgewood NJ, making Holiday Shopping Easier (and Cheaper!) in Ridgewood.  Great news for shoppers planning to visit downtown Ridgewood this holiday season!

In a gesture honoring a dedicated community leader, the Village Council has adopted a holiday parking plan that grants FREE parking throughout the Central Business District (CBD) on two key Saturdays in December:

  • Saturday, December 13

  • Saturday, December 20

This initiative aims to encourage residents and visitors to support local businesses during the crucial Christmas shopping rush, making it easier and more affordable to enjoy all that the Village has to offer.

Honoring a Village Champion: Tony Damiano

This generous holiday parking plan was adopted by the Village Council at its meeting last night, following a proposal from the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce. The free parking is specifically being held in honor of Tony Damiano, the long-serving executive director and founder of the Ridgewood Guild.

Damiano has been a tireless advocate for the village’s Central Business District, working for years to promote local commerce, organize community events (like the annual tree lighting), and enhance the vibrancy of downtown Ridgewood. This temporary reprieve from parking fees serves as a fitting tribute to his commitment to the local economy.

Get Ready for a Bustling Holiday Season!

The free parking weekends arrive just in time for last-minute gift buying, festive dining, and enjoying the holiday atmosphere in Bergen County.

The Village looks forward to a “vibrant and bustling holiday season,” encouraging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to shop and dine locally without the hassle of constantly feeding the meter.

  1. I remember when the parking garage was built and we were told the parking fees would pay for the garage and not the taxpayers. Tony Damiano was the leader of the band and the restaurants wanted the deck for increased business.
Then all of a sudden Saturday nights became free, the busiest time of the week. Apparently customers that would pay $18.00 for a martini wouldn’t go to the restaurants if they had to pay $3.00 for parking.
Two free Saturdays in honor of the biggest garage advocate completes the farce.
No wonder we are a nation in debt.

    1. There was a claim that diners were concerned about replenishing the meter and couldn’t enjoy their meals. If they would extend the parking to five hours, that would eliminate such a concern.

  2. Pumping meters is an absolute joke.
I took my business elsewhere years ago.
