Ridgewood NJ, Good news for Bergen County commuters! NJ Transit announced this week the successful completion of an extensive exterior renovation project at the Mahwah Station. The upgrades are part of a larger, system-wide commitment to modernize facilities and enhance the daily travel experience for customers.
Referred to as “safety and aesthetic upgrades,” the comprehensive work improves both the station’s functionality and its structural integrity. The project, which cost $2.4 million, was completed without any interruption to regular train service on the Bergen County and Main lines.

What’s New at Mahwah Station?
The renovation focused on critical infrastructure repair alongside aesthetic and accessibility improvements. Commuters using the station—which serves approximately 115 customers on an average weekday—will immediately notice several key changes:
| Category | Completed Upgrades |
| Structural Integrity | Replacement of the station roof, retaining wall, and a major stairway. |
| Exterior & Aesthetics | Stucco and brick repairs, refurbished stairs, and refreshed landscaping. |
| Functionality & Safety | Relocation of electrical equipment, lighting upgrades, and improved site drainage. |
| Commuter Amenities | Installation of new bike racks, architectural railings, and upgraded information displays. |
NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri emphasized the investment’s value, stating, “Mahwah Station is already offering our customers a safer, more welcoming and more inviting space. It’s just one example of over 20 NJ Transit station projects currently in progress…”
Part of a Bigger Picture
The Mahwah Station facelift is a tangible sign of NJ Transit’s commitment to preserving critical transportation assets. The agency, which is the country’s third-largest transit system, is actively working on multiple projects aimed at long-term improvements across its 165 train stations.
These upgrades not only serve the local community of Mahwah but also strengthen the connectivity of the entire Bergen County rail system.
