Ridgewood, NJ—The hallways of George Washington Middle School (GWMS) recently welcomed back one of its most successful alumni, and the visit is already sparking excitement for a potential future collaboration!

Sought-after NYC visual artist and Creative Director, Alex Alpert, returned to his “old stomping ground” to reconnect with his former art teacher, Jennifer Manke, tour the campus, and share his incredible journey from Ridgewood student to global collaborator.
The Man Behind the Line: Who is Alex Alpert?
Alex Alpert is renowned in the art world for his unique stream of consciousness illustration style. His signature detailed shading and free-flowing line variations have made him a highly sought-after artist specializing in:
-
Live Drawing
-
Murals
-
Corporate Collaborations
Alpert’s work is popping up everywhere, thanks to major partnerships with global brands including Sharpie, Nike, American Express (Amex), Red Bull, and Adobe. He seamlessly blends street art energy with corporate marketing strategy.
Finding His Roots (and His Ceiling Tile!)
During his inspiring visit to GWMS, Alpert took a walk down memory lane, ultimately discovering a priceless piece of his past: his original eighth-grade ceiling tile project, which still proudly adorns the hallway!
The artist, who initially studied music while working as a street artist, built his career by excelling in brand partnerships and marketing at Universal Music Group (UMG). It was while at UMG that he expanded his visual art practice, creating pieces for musicians and performing live art at concerts and events before becoming a full-time, global creative force.
As a special tribute to his alma mater, Alex even created a custom GWMS-themed drawing during his visit, cementing the link between the school and his professional success.
What’s Next for GWMS and Alex Alpert?
The reunion with his former art teacher, Jennifer Manke, was more than just a trip down memory lane. The two successfully mapped out plans for a possible future collaboration, promising an exciting opportunity for current Ridgewood students to learn directly from a globally recognized artist.

Alex left Ridgewood because there was a shortage of 60×90 baseball fields.
and those 60×90 fields could only be built on the east side of the town, because the west side of the town was too influential.
Sadly, influential enough to avoid losing a horse farm for a superfund park, an endless parade of buses, and a for-profit business.
